Hey all,

I was banded in Mexico on Feb 7th, 2009 by Dr. Aceves. Up to this point, I've had no problems at all. However, I've had a really bad cold for the last few days with A LOT of chest congestion, and have been coughing quite a bit. Tonight, I took my first ride on my mountain bike since being banded (thanks to the lovely Seattle weather...) and upon returning home I am in quite a bit of pain. I don't want to rush off to the ER if I just over-did it and the pain will be gone by morning, but I haven't experienced anything like this since being banded and don't know if I should be all that concerned. I have really sharp pains around my port when I bend over or reach for anything. I'm worried that maybe I coughed too hard, or maybe rode the bike too hard. Either way, could it be that I pulled a muscle? Does anyone know what it feels like when the band has slipped? Any thoughts or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Nice to see you too took advantage of the nice Seattle weather a few days back. But I too had a problem like that after being banded. I had caught pneumonia 3 wks after being banded and coughed really hard for about 6 weeks. Seems I just couldn't fight the pneumonia and recover all at the same time. Anyways, I would wait a few more days before running off to the hospital. I went to the E.R and basically my surgeon said that I had stretched the muscles out that my port is attached to. It will just take some time for everything to settle into place and sometimes the smallest things can hurt your port site. Hope this helps soom and hopefully we will get rid of all this rain we have had the past couple of days!

I had a similar situation after being banded and my doc prescribed an abdominal binder which I wore for a couple of weeks. It worked great! You can buy them at Walmart, etc w/o a prescription but with one, my insurance paid.

I had the same problem from exercising on the Wii. I ended up in the hospital for two days. I could hardly move the pain was so bad. Too much too soon. I had to wear a binder around the port area to help me throught it.

Thanks so much for your responses! I ended up going to the ER last night because I didn't want to chance it. It took hours and hours to finally get seen, and after all was said and done they just told me to take it easy for a few days. I guess I'll have to try to be a little more careful and get one of those binders! Thanks again...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
