researching gastric sleeve surgeons in mexico

Recommended Posts

hello everyone, i have never paticipated in a forum ,so bear with me.I am well past 65yrs. of age. diabetic, heart failure and of course obese. My cardiologist feels i can come thru the surgery fine but since the vert.gastric sleeve has only been done for about 3yrs. insurance does not pay for it .since it will be an out of pocket expense i can't afford it in the states. Here is my quandry...it is much less expensive in Mexico but I don't know anything about any surgeons there, only what I read on thier web sites. Can anyone one help me out? i'm forever grateful...:) pippyann

Not to sound negative...Just real advice (I am in school for nursing and I work in the bariatric unit at my job ) but given your age and health conditions that you listed I would say look into the LapBand and really do your research with WLS surgeries. There are alot of great surgeons in Mexico that people have posted on here but Follow up care is a crucial part in being sucessful in whichever surgery you do and I would not refer my grandma to Mexico for surgery and feel safe for her for the aftermath.. I am all for mexican surgeons but please look into Lapband and do Homework with Gastric sleeve before going "the cheaper route"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
