Angelnurse12 0 Posted April 14, 2009 Hi everyone...I am a new bandster(February 09') and I am currently 32lbs down. I do have to say that I have not been sticking to the plan completely and need a pick me up...BUT.. This weekened I was at work and ate a few too many Ruffles potatoe chips and then, had a 3-4 SMALL sips of soda. I know..I know, I was a bad girl. I was okay for about 20 minutes, then I had the worst pain ever!! The pain was around the band site( mid sternal area) and it would not stop. I could barely walk, the breath knocked out of me. I thought I was dying...seriously! I couldn't even make myself sick to rid myself of the pain. It finally began to resolve after 25 minutes...WHAT WAS THAT PAIN? Was it the combination of soda and food or just an intolerance? I am scared of a band slippage. Please help!!
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted April 14, 2009 I'd suggest you ask your surgeon. I can't drink soda because it hurts too much.
mamababcock 0 Posted April 15, 2009 I am a newbie here.. so please forgive the ignorant question.....Do you have to give up ALL soda? I have my seminar appt next Tuesday and trying to get info online. I drink tea and ice tea most of the time.. but do like the occasional rootbeer.

HOWEVER...once the band has been in a while and your body has adapted (like a year or so?) its possible that you'll be able to drink carbonated beverages. Personally I like a beer every once in a great while and haven't had one since banding; it hurts me to drink carbonation.
ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted April 15, 2009 In all likelihood, it was a combination of the salty chips and the carbonation. When you sprinkle salt on beer or soda it accelerates the carbonation "blooming" and the bubbles bursting. Bad, bad case of gas....one of the reasons carbonation is a bad thing. Do that often enough and it could stretch your pouch.
