I was banded June 17th.

Had my first fill July 22nd, and I'll be going in tomorrow for possibly my 2nd fill (2 weeks later) because I find myself hungry again after 2 hours. Although my calories are ranging between 1100-1300, it's still a lot of work not to go over the 1200 goal so I'm going to check with my doctor tomorrow to see if I can get a little more in my band, plus I'll get another weigh in.

Yes, thanks for doing this Breanne!

I came on to ask if anyone else was sort of stuck at this point in the journey, and I see you and I are in almost precisely the same place.

I started at 258, and though I did lose a little through June and into July, since mid July I haven't lost any weight. I am down two pants sizes but heavy as I was almost four months ago. If I fail to be careful for a day I instantly spike up in weight and spend the next weeks fighting to get back down.

All I seem to be doing is yo-yoing between 238 and 231. And I had a good fill late August.

I now feel some restriction in that if I chow down on a banana too fast I'll get that stuck feeling in my esophagus. Other foods can do that. But I can still eat bread if I do it carefully.

Guess it's time for another fill.

Bob

PS: It's been so long since I've had a reason to update my ticker that I've forgotten my PIN! Sigh

NYGuy, if you can still eat bread, you need a fill..:). I have a Realize band. I'm at 7ccs, surgery was June 1, '09, and this was my third fill. I'm probably borderline too tight, but I'm bound to make it work, especially since I'm losing. I can't eat any bread at all. Stopped for a fish sandwich, kiddy size, two bites and I hacked the rest of the way home. But strange things go down without a prob, e.g. popcorn, but not chicken...go figure.

If you're clothes size is going down, you're clearly losing inches. I know I don't exercise anywhere like I should . But hang in there for the next fill, it will make a huge difference.

My daughter and I are both banded. We are real cheap dates these days..lol

Hey Trisha,

Thanks so for your response. I sort of agree I need another fill. I can down more types of foods that most bandsters can't. I have yet to PB though I've come close a couple times and then only when chowing down with abandon... a big hunk of banana poorly chewed, for example. I say I can eat bread, and I can, but I do have to do it somewhat carefully. I can only maintain my weight and drop a poiund or two by obsessively controlling my eating habits. The slightest lapse can undo weeks of work. I sometimes wonder why I bothered having this alien installed inside me if it was still going to be hard work!

My fill meister doesn't believe her patients should be vomiting but it seems to me I'm still on the unfilled side of the elusive "sweet spot".

More and more I see the wisdom of my fellow June bandsters in picking our slogan. It is indeed a "journey".

Bob

I think I probably PB more than I should and spit back up food more than I should, but I blame this on my learning curve, teaching my mind that even though I really do want that slice of pizza, I should know I can't eat it. As long as I eat what I know I can, and stop when I know I should, I don't have problems with PB. So I think to get to the sweet spot you have to go through some PB'ing. I would run, don't walk to get your next fill. I am now only at the point where my amount of food is down to 3/4 to a cup of food and it takes me at least half an hour.

good luck and, yes, it's still work, still calorie counting and my biggest part I don't do is exercise.

But I know what you mean when you don't watch it for a few days. I went up like four pounds over last weekend and I like had no clue what I had eaten. In hindsite it may have been the huge container (18 servings) of caramel corn that I ate over two days...lol

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
