Who was the first to compliment you on your weight loss??

Recommended Posts

I think this will be kinda neat to hear about "first compliment" stories.

My first compliment came from the maintenance man at the college I attend. I was getting on the elevator and he was on there already, and said to me, "Somebody is losing, you look really good, just don't lose too much." I just laughed it off and thought to myself-Wait til you see me in the fall!:)

I am a waitress at restaurant and had not seen a table of regulars in a couple of weeks as they were on vacation. When they walked in one morning they started saying oh my god, and you are slimming down,. It felt nice to know that people can tell. I can tell in my clothes but otherwise I still feel like the same ol' me. I am hoping as I continue to prosper with this band I will start having the self esteem to see myself different.

Very funny about the haters being the first to notice!

Someone that works for me, she had applied for my job before I got it, was the first to notice! She said in a very snarky tone - you are shrinking - - I looked at her, and she said, I mean that as a compliment!

Oh well, not doing it for her, but of course it makes certain people uncomfortable to see one lose weight -

Others don't say anything, and it is just as bad!

The first to compliment me (I think) was my mom. She was there with me the whole time I was banded. We are constantly together, so I was actually surprised that she noticed. I've lost 35 so far, but I can't really tell that much. However, I was looking at some old pictures of me, and I just about died! HORRIBLE!!!! I was like an egg with thin legs! :bored: (My legs are really skinny.) Hahahaha!

I've been complimented on my weight loss by my parents, my sister and my husband, they all knew about my surgery and have been very supportive of the whole process. I am anxiously awaiting the time when someone who didn't know about my surgery comments now!!

Gosh, if I recall comrrectly it was the group of women I work with. They have been very encouraging on my journey.

I'm 14 months out and at goal (actually a little past goal) and even still, people still comment. I work in a governement facility of about 1400 employees so it can be months before I run into someone again, but just yesterday an employee walked by me and said "damn, you look hot-and 10 years younger!" .....it was all I needed to get thru the day! :bored:

My mom, boyfriend and family have given me compliments but, I too am waiting for someone who doesn't know about the surgery give me a compliment.

In the past, I always had to hit the 40 lb mark before anyone noticed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
