mcinmd 0 Posted August 30, 2005 Hello everyone. I am 36 yrs old and had a RNY (gastric bypass) 11 years ago. I got down to 135 lbs. but regained and now am about 165 lbs which is a lot on a 5'3 frame. I am interested in getting the lap-band on top of the RNY. I'v e heard of a few people who have done this with success. Is there a specific weight requirement with this procedure? Anyone have it done in Mexico where it's much cheaper? I'm sure my insurance would not cover it since I am not BMI over 35. Any add'l advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. MC
paula 4 Posted August 30, 2005 Sorry MC, I dont have any answers for you... but I must commend you for only gaining 30 pounds in 11 years. WOW! Have you tried calling a surgeons office and getting some answers from them? Different surgeons may have different opinions on banding after by-pass. I would get several opinions! good luck

kellymoos 4 Posted August 30, 2005 Skinny Minnie, you might want to post this under the introductions thread so that more people can see it and respond to it. Thanks
La_madam 20 Posted August 30, 2005 MC. Dr. Ortiz in TJ has preformed the band on many bypass patients. There are a few of his bypass/band patients on his web site you can speak with at lapbandforum.com . I know right now he is one of a few that do it. Met a woman in his office in July who couldnt find a Dr. in the U.S. to preform it so she flew in from the US for the surgery.
