plateau...already..is that even possible?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on April 6th (or last monday), prior to surgery I was losing about 2lbs a day on the liquid diet. After surgery I was still losing about 2lbs a day...when I got up to 15lbs it seemed like it was going to start slowing down...i lost 1 more pound the following day and that has been it. I have lost a total of 16lbs...but it has stalled for 2days...i'm starting to move on to more solid foods today (scrambled eggs, baked potatoes etc.). Does this mean I have plateaued already? Or does it mean I will start gaining the weight that I lost back with the new addition of scrambled eggs? I'm happy for what I have lost and i know at some point it slows down...is this my slow down? has anyone else experienced this? (I'm sure someone has)

your reintroducing carbs into your day, going from liquid to that sometimes causes weight gain. They call this period of time between surgery day to first fill, bandster hell, so relax and focus on the beginning of your journey. The doc told me not to focus so much on the scale but to focus on making healthy choices and exercising. So good luck and try not to weigh yourself so much, I still have a problem with that. I weigh myself like 10 times a day but remember they say a person's weight can fluctuate 8 lbs a day, thats a lot, so don't worry.

NOT a plateau. A plateau is a much longer period with no weight loss. Obviously, you cannot possibly continue losing 2 pounds a day. 1-2 pounds a week is what you should expect.

I have experienced simmilar situations twice now too. My surgery was March 27th and I will loose 1 or 2 lbs and stop for a good 5 days or so then it will start again. I have only lost 7lbs since surgery, but the bright side is we are loosing! You are doing great, it is normal to experience things like this when you are introducing new things in your diet.

I have been told this in normal. I know it's what has happened to me. I am doing about a 1lb a week. Got my first fill yesterday and I had lost 1lb since a follow up last Mon. I think the "bad" guy in mushy foods is the dang potatoe. Most of us go for that as a good food to start with but it is a bad guy to me. The eggs are a good Protein source. Things change as the body heals so don't worry to much right now. You just follow what the doc told you to do and you will be fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
