Food Fears! Am I being silly?

Recommended Posts

I've been banded since Oct 29, 08 and to this day, I haven't eaten steak or salad since my banding. I'm terrified I'll get them stuck. Does that seem crazy?

I don't have any problems with chicken, hamburger meat, grilled fish, or even lamb chops... but am terrified to try steak. And the lettuce in the salad scares me... it seems like pre-banding, no matter how well I thought I chewed it, it seemed like I'd always poop out a piece of lettuce.. (TMI, I know... sorry!)

So, should I just suck it up and try them??? Are you guys able to eat steak and salads???

Bridgette,

I have been banded since January 3 of 2008, 15 months out. I have had steak.... You just have to make sure that it is VERY VERY tender and juicy. Take it slow and easy,, chew, chew, and chew some more....

As for the salad, I have eaten salad almost every evening since I was able to eat solids again. No problems at all. I do add cottage cheese to my salad for added Protein.< /p>

Just try these items, take it slow and easy.

besides, what you cant eat today, you might be able to eat tomorrow. The bands are so fickle.

Hey girl!!

I eat steak and salad with no problems. I do have to chew them both very carefully and actually have more problem with chicken than steak. Also, like Lois said, it has to be very tender. If it even seems remotely tough, I stay away from it.

See you tomorrow!!!:)

I too have a fear of some foods and steak happens to be one of them. I just have not had the urge to try it. I do ok on moist chicken, fish and ground turkey. I had some ham this weekend and that was pretty good. I have to stay away from leftover chicken because it is dry. Good luck experimenting.

I haven't had issues with either food. 17 months banded.

I have been banded for about seven weeks. I have had no problems with steak or salad, but found lamb to be a killer. Also, I decided to experiment with a piece of ham during the weekend. It was bad -- and I thought I chewed it well. I don't like ham well enough to try it again.

I don't really know about breads because I purposely avoid them -- even though I love bread.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
