Meal Plan for Liquid Diet:

Breakfast:

1 Atkins Advantage shake (160 Calories)

Lunch:

1 Atkins Advantage Shake (160 Calories)

1 Cup of Cooked Green Veggies or 2 Cups of Raw Green Veggies (50 Calories)

1 Cup of chicken broth (10 Calories)

Dinner

I'm new to the forum, first day. But i'm interested in how you came out on your diet. Because it seems to 500 to 600 calories is not enough to live on. i hope you called your doctor back and told him of your hunger pains.

After my surgery, 10 dec 08 i was so tired of slimfast and right today i still hate it, but the dietician told me that is was not enough calories to include the Protein shakes in my diet

I agree about your calories, not much of anything. You might want to call the doctors office. My pre-op diet was Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch then a low cal low carb diet for dinner. Just be careful about the adkins advantage, I didnt realize that I was drinking down 4 a day with 9 grams of fat in each!! Thats a whole lot of fat!

Goodluck

The whole idea of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver.

Mine was as follows:

Breakfast- Protein powder (mixed w/ water) 110 calories

Lunch- Protein Powder (mixed w/ water) 110 calories

Dinner- Small serving of white fish or chicken breast w/ small serving of green vegetable. 250 calories

So as you can see, most pre-op diets are very low in calories. Just stick with it. I know it is hard, but you need to follow it to ensure your liver shrinks.

I can't remember who - but someone here didn't follow it and they weren't able to get the surgery because their liver was still too big.

Good Luck,

Malissa

pure luxury

My doctor had me on Optifast for 15 days before the operation, After day #2, I was not hungry. So-much-so that i often forgot to drink the 5th shake of the day.

On Op day, he said my liver looked 'good'. Since then, I have not been able to drink much more than Water or a little gatorade.. but it might be too soon to judge as I am only on day #5 post surgery (counting the day of surgery). I would love to be able to have milkshakes now, this Water is getting pretty boring (although I am not really hungry)

So, i know it is hard, but hang in there..

Good luck going thru the process....

k

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
