Sudden Tightness, Unfilled, Gained weight !

Recommended Posts

I am very frustrated and wonder if anyone else has had this problem. Several months after my last fill, I gradually got really really tight over a 2 day period. I was so tight, I couldn't swallow my own saliva and couldn't drink anything and was up all night. Physician's assistant took out a bunch of Fluid (2 cc) and ordered an upper GI. No band slippage (thank God-this tells me it must not be that easy to slip). A few days after the unfill, I can eat everything in sight and I do for two weeks. Gained 10 pounds !!! Today went in for a fill and he put in 1.5 cc of the 2 cc that was taken out. So now I'm tight again but not too tight. I asked the doctor why the tightness and he said it was probably swollen from throwing up too much. The band is very frustrating and it's so scary to think of what would happen if I ever needed it removed. I live in fear of that almost daily. Any advice, thoughts?

i had a very similar experience. got too tight, unfilled (but for months!!), gained some weight, started to get refilled. i have found that i am "sensitive" to fills, as the doctor puts it. after going back to start the refill process i have had to have very small fills or i close up completely and have to get unfilled completely and start all over. its hell. my advice would to just go slow. best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
