Hello,

I'm Dave from Indiana and I'm a couple of month's out from surgery. I've been approved, but still have a couple of hoops to jump through and my son's graduation at the end of May to deal with before hitting the table.

I'm a former Surgical Tech, so I kind of know what I'm getting into surgically wise, but lifestyle wise it scares the hell outa me... Anyone who wants to hold a cowardly lion's hand and give him courage and encouragement are more than welcome. I'm starting out at 6'1" and 340 and would really like to hit 200-220 before it's all over....

I hope that everyone is having success and all the weightloss that they are wanting.. Please drop by just to say hey.....

Dave..

Dave,

I know how you are feeling....I felt the same way before I had the surgery. I have no regrets at all...I do still miss soda but I am hoping as more time goes by that will get less or go away totally. It has been hard doing the 3 meals 4oz each one and no drinking 30 min before, during and 30 min after. I still feel this was totally worth it and am looking forward to a more active lifestyle.

Tif

Who would ever think surgery would be the easy part??? But the fact is, for this it is. The lifestyle part is hell to master, but can be done. This board and its people are great, so welcome!

Dave, the surgery is really about a tenth of what you worry it will be. Afterwards, you'll feel pretty darned good in a matter of days. I won't lie, not everyday is perfect, but with my band, I know that I will consistently lose and not feel like I'm going it "bare knuckles". You'll find a lot of support on this forum and you'll also find people who have probably experienced anything that could come up for you. So ask your questions! And, more importantly, be reassured that while this is indeed life changing, you'll go through some steps.... liquid post-op diet; then mushy foods; then adding regular foods. And by the time you're back to regular foods consistently, you'll be starting a lifetime of better choices.

Hey Dave I am right there with you. I am working through the process, and probably a couple mos out myself. I know for me that this is the only way I can lose weight, I have tried all the diets, have lost over 100lbs 3 times in my life but each time it came back with more... I am 48 now and it is affecting my health, and I have no choice. I wish I had been able to do this years ago. But hang in there, most everyone on here if you look at the percentages are happy with the results. My dear friend had it done 8 mos ago and told me honestly she would do it again. So it is the right choice, just a scary one.

Well thanks all for the encouragement. Like I said I think the headgames are going to mess with me the most. Also the fact that the past couple of surgeries that I had I knew everyone in the O.R. one of the perks or working in there.. (or not especially when a cath was involved).. kinda embarassing.... But anyway I've got a couple of classes on the 22nd of this month, then one the 6th of May and then the pre-op class and knife time...I want plently of Versaid!!!! But seriously... thanks a bunch...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
