head hunger, how to get over it?

Recommended Posts

 I've been band for 6 month, my weightloss is slow, really slow, but I was expecting it since my BMI wasen't that hight to begin with. The hardest thing for me is to get over the head hunger, I know my body doesn't feel like I need to eat but my head does, mostly when Im alone and bored. I find it hard to deal with! Do enny of you have some advice for me? (I don't drink Protein shake my surgeon beleive they are not usefull and I should take my Protein with normal meal only).

Thanks

Julie

Julie - I think it is all something we go through, especially if head hunger has been our problem in the past (which mine was.) While the lap band doesn't cure head hunger, my surgeon said the band should provide "negative feedback" that sickly, pain in the back feeling that will eventually help retrain your brain. I've only been banded for 2 weeks and am dealing with the same issues. I'm thinking about calling a counselor to get more help as well. The lapband was something of a last resort for me and I need to do all I can to make it work..I'm sure you feel the same way. Find other people to support you, help hold you accountable when you reach for more or for something you shouldn't have. My husband, as much as he hates it, is doing that for me and it is helping. Good luck to you!

My therapist, who is banded, says she drinks Water

to get that full feeling and is also something to do.

Get a bottle of water and hold it, don't set is aside,

just hold it and sip, sip and more sipping.

Taking a walk, reading, exercise, to get your mind off of food helps me. Maybe it will help you as well?

Good Luck

Water really helps me while I am at work. I have a 32 oz bottle of water that I try to refill 2x's while I am at work. It is my goal to drink one bottle before lunch, one after lunch and start on the third before I leave at 5pm. It is a distraction and keeps me from reaching for snacky foods. I still think about the Snacks and want to eat them but I try to drink every time I think about them. I really do feel much better now that I am getting plenty of water!
