Any San Diego band-sters?

I am in San Diego and cannot find a surgeon who performs the lap band procedure. My insurance medical group only has one bariatric surgeon, and they don't do lap bands, only RNY's. I am currently seeking a referral outside of the network...but am not feeling the love. I feel like they are going to deny me.

My question is- are there any San Diego area bandsters? If so, who did your surgery, and would you recommend them?

I am determined to have the lap band even if it means self pay ( which i dont want to do)

any help would be great. thanks !

Aunny, I also live in San Diego! I am with Scripps through Pacificare, and there are two surgeons there that perform the lap band. Their names are Matthew Brunson and Sunil Bhoyrul, and the # that you can reach them at is (858) 554-8984. The office is located in Torrey Pines. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other info.

Well, I'm in Long Beach - kind of close to you.

I am a self pay and went to Dr Ortiz in TJ Mexico - I HIGHLY reccomend him. He's an amazing person and an amazing doctor.

I live in San Diego but am going to Tijuana for my surgery. My insurance company will reimburse me for roughly half of the cost. Yes, even though I am going to Mexico. They said that they consider it out of network. My date is November 3, 2005. I will be meeting with the San Diego bandsters tomorrow for the first time. It should be fun.

Hi there! I am in San Diego and will be scheduling with Dr. Milton Owens. He apparently contracts out with several hospitals. I was going to have mine done at Alvarado Hospital in La Mesa but they are having some type of contractual dispute that has caused them to put the lap band surgery on hold. So, since I have my letter of approval, I am more than likely going through Coastal Obesity Center, another facility Dr. Owens works with.

I may have to travel to Orange County for this but thats fine with me. I am sooo ready for this.

Let's keep in touch, ok?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
