Hello Everyone Just Banded 4/7/09

Recommended Posts

Greetings to all,

I have finally had my lap band and so far, it had been a bittersweet experience. I am still on the liquid diet phase and feel as tho i am starving to death!! I want a pizza! and chicken wings! and all that stuff. I feel as tho I am going thru food withdrawal. It's horrible!!

I have lost about 20 pounds or so since the week before the surgery. That's the sweet part. I am down to 276 from 296 or 298 I cannot recall.

Any suggestions for getting thru the first two weeks?

Thanks

Lobo

Just a thought: Are you getting enough Protein?

One thing that I have found that fills me up for the morning is 2 scoops of extreme milk chocolate Gold Standard 100% whey. Mix this in 8 oz of milk. I am 9 days post surgery. I drank mine this morning around 7:30 and wasn't hungry until almost 1:00. It provides 48 ounces of Protein just for the 2 scoops and another 8 ounces of protein for the milk. That's 56 oz just in that one glass. You might have to drink over a little time to get it all in, but it is very good. I also like to put it in the freezer for a few minutes.....Great. You will be full....and you need the protein. Still liquid but I don't really think about the food. In fact, I cooked the whole Easter dinner for my family and 2 others and it didn't bother me a bit.....Hope you feel better.

You can get it at GNC. It comes in other flavors, but a friend who is a marathoner suggested this. He and his wife both drink it for working out. She drinks two glasses a day with one scoop in each. He drinks one glass with 2 scoops in that one glass. I decided to do like him because I needed the most Protein and so that I could have other things later in the day. My doctor said protein must come first before anything else. Otherwise, you eat other things and fill up and never get to the protein. Protein is for your hair and healing among other things......You will be so glad you did the surgery. I have had no complications. Only tender spot is where the port is......Let me know if you need anything else......

Hi there,

Congratulations on your surgery, lobo.

In case you're interested there's a forum for all of us banded or being banded in April, who might be going through similar experiences HERE. Also, I've added your name and Nana6's name to the list of April bandits HERE.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
