Question for CPAP Users

Recommended Posts

I have been using my CPAP machine for almost two years now, and it has made a big difference. I am usually totally compliant, but I have fallen asleep without it. My roommate says she used to be able to hear me when she was down stairs, but now I'm much quieter.

I may never lose my CPAP, and that's fine with me. What I'd like to know is when you decided it was time for another titration? I'm not anxious to go through that, but if I can have the pressure lowered that would be great. I also don't want to keep the machine at this pressure if it would be harmful. It's only at 8 anyway, which isn't bad.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Debbie

I don't use my cpap anymore. When I first had a sleep study, I was having 109 events an hour. Then I was banded, lost over 60 lbs so far and I exercise a lot now. Now my auto cpap is saying my pressure was only at around 4. I stopped using it and I feel fine. I probably should get another triation, but I think I'm good for now. I even have packed up my cpap and got it off my night stand. I think weight has so much to do with sleep apnea also.

My name is bob. I went in for my consult with surgeon(fifth month for insurance) she asked when my last sleep study was, when i told her almost 2 years she said you usually get retested every 2 years because it can change. I hope this helps.

My Dr just recently ordered for me to use an auto Pap for 2 weeks, I went and picked it up from the medical supply company and it had a card in it. I took it back after the 2 weeks and they read the results and determined that my pressure needed to be reduced from 10 down to 6. I will at some point do another sleep study but this is something fairly easy that your Dr can order for you in the meantime.

I've had a CPAP or biPap for eight years. I won't even lean back in my recliner or say my prayers without putting on my mask.

Four years ago I had a malfunctioning machine that put me into a coma for 5 or 6 days. I was intubated & had double pneumonia & a collapsed lung & got put on dialysis.

It was truly unnerving & the machine I have now has an ALARM that goes off when it stops working.

My most recent test was last month & during the 'testing' period I stopped breathing 100 times in 60 minutes. Exhausting. I never thought I'd beg to have my mask on but I did.

Unfortunately losing weight did not lower my pressures. The machine is set at 25/20.

Best of luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
