The problem with mushies

Recommended Posts

Let's see if my crappy internet connection will let me post this time.

Mushies are going to be a problem for me, I think. I've been looking at the suggestions that everyone has provided and I can honestly say that some refried Beans with melted cheese and salsa sounds heavenly right now, but I can't get those things here.

We have no:

refried Beans (gotta find something like pintos, soak, cook, and mash them)

Ricotta cheese

cottage cheese

applesauce

most canned fruit (pineapple is available now but it's terribly expensive)

salsa

oatmeal

low-fat or nonfat cheese (or most cheeses I'm used to seeing in the grocery stores)

I guess the Turkish palate just isn't that adventurous. Oh, and forget about frozen dinners like Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones too.

I don't know what I'm going to do. Put doner kebap in the blender? :cool2:

Hello, on my list of mushies I can have all meats except for red meat, preferebly from a can because it's more moist but I don't have to pureed it before hand as long as it's mushy before I swallow it.

Also what about eggs or potatoes? I'm suprised about the Beans, would have thought they would be a staple everywhere. Hopefully others come by and give you better ideas.

Yes, put a doner kebap in the blender, My first day of mushies was St Patties Day, There was no way I was going to miss out on my wife's Corned Beef! Into the blender it went, Texture was wierd, but it was still yummy.

Also, you can "Refry" almost any type of bean, I loved mashed kidneys and butter Beans can be smashed with a fork as you eat them.

Ever had mashed coliflour! its all the rage in the fansey reasturants.

Think "Baby food". (dont actually buy the little jars) but look and see what they have to get some ideas about what to cook.

Applesauce is very easy to make, just cut up the apples and cook. Also when I lived in Turkey there was oatmeal (yulaf ezmesi) available but you have to boil it awhile (no instant). Salsa is also easy to make just google up some recipes.

Any kind of cooking in Turkey calls for creativity if you are not used to Turkish grocery stores!

Thanks! I will look for the oatmeal. I've lived here since August and I've made a lot of changes and substitutions. My mom sent me some instant oatmeal in a care package recently, which was awesome :)

Sweet potatos? couscous? Tabouli? hummus? squash? avocados?

Invest in a good solid blender. Keep veggie or chicken stock on hand to "thin things out a bit" and add some flavor.

What kind of veggies, fruit and Beans are common to the area. Let us know and we'll supply some ideas.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
