Anyone us Dr. Kim in Colleyville?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for the seminar on April 23 and I'm getting so excited since I've made the decision to have this done. I will be self pay so I'm wondering how long til I get a surgery date. Also I'm trying to check out to see how people liked Dr. Kim and his staff. My friend is using him, but her surgery is not until June.

Thanks for any input.

Susan

Self pay should get you to surgery sooner than someone going through their insurance because there are fewer hoops to jump through. You just need your medical clearances, no time waiting for insurance to approve anything. My surgeon was not on my insurance because my insurance did not cover any WLS for any reason, so I had my PCP make the referrals to the specialists for the pre-op testing. That way my insurance covered all of that, at least.

I'm scheduled for surgery w/ Dr. Kim on Tues 04/14/09 and I'm a self pay too. I went to the seminar on 03/31/09, consultation on 04/01/09 and started the Optifast pre-op diet the same day. It's fast!

Thank goodness. I'm hoping I'll be able to schedule in May as that will be a good time to take off work.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
