hello, I am newbie in the UK

Recommended Posts

hi bandsters,

I had my band fitted a week ago. In the UK it is unusual to get funding on the health service unless you have other health problems. Luckily I am just fat lol. Therefore I self funded and was seen and done with in a matter of weeks, so far so good.

I have to follow a liquids only diet fo 3 weeks and then I can commmence the mushy food phase. I have an appt on the 7th May for my first fill under x-ray.

So far I have lost 10 kilos since seeing the surgeon. I feel very sore and a bit low in mood if I am honest but from what I read this is fairly typical and should eaze over the next few weeks.

I am loving reading everybodies stories and getting all of the hints and tips. This site is great!

My very best wishes to us all in this horrible fat war.

Chubby

This is the best thing i have ever done for my weight

i had my first fill on thursday 0.5 fill as i had already had in 4 mils to which i didnt realize, but could feel restriction,

i didnt need an xray she felt the port straight away, pricked me with a little needle to numb the area, then made me laugh alot & before i knew it she was finished..

Hi Chubby

Welcome! I am a self funded bandster from the uk too. I was banded in November 08 although I started my weight loss plan in August 08 and have lost over 5 stone so far, got around two and a half to go.

I am loving my band, I would never have got this far without it.

great to see so many Brits on here too.

I live in Durham, was banded at the hospital group Dolan Park Hospital, Birmingham. They took good care of me and my surgeon, Mr Sarela was a real gentleman.

I am having my aftercare with the weight loss surgery group, because they had outstanding feedback on the uk forums.

Roll on 7th May and my first fill

Chubby X

Hi there,

Congratulations on your surgery. Hope you are feeling better with every day that passes.

In case you're interested there's a forum for all of us banded or being banded in April (and who might be going through similar experiences at the same time as you) HERE. Also, I've added your name name to the list of April bandits HERE. I'm not sure that I have the right surgery date for you though (were you banded on April 4?)

Hi i had my band two weeks ago at dolan park. How are you finding the after care i've had none so far. Have you got a appointment for your first fill yet?

Hello Joanne,

I was banded at dolan Park on 5/4/09 by Mr Sarela. He was very good, he even visited me at 6am the next day to see how I was before allowing me home, he gave me a good examination and declared me fit to travel. I got an appt before my discharge for my first fill on 7/5/09 in Manchester under x-ray. I got a phone call from the hospital group on Wednesday asking how I was and got a few tips re wounds, analgesia and wind. All in all I have no complaints at all.

I have elected to buy my aftercare from the WLS group as they have an excellant reputation. I had my first appt with Nurse Wendy on Thursday. She really sorted my out, checked my dressings and removed them as I was having an allergic reaction to them and my skin was all blistered. She told me I had a temperature and low grade chest infection and advised antibiotics for 5 days which have really helped to get me back to normal and think I will be seeing her once a month in Newcastle which is the nearest satellite clinic to where I live. 2 years aftercare with all fills included costs £999. Not cheap but I am going for quality rather than price, as I have heard that the after care is probably more important than the op itself.

Get onto your surgeon if you are not happy and try to find out what is happening.

Best of luck

Chubby

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
