Riding While Fat?

Recommended Posts

Should I ride my motorcycle now that I'm 270lbs?

Okay here is my story, a few years ago I purchased a sports bike (which I love to ride):). I was about 200 to 215lbs when I got it and I rode any chance I got. It was like my therapy and it worked every time. Well about two years after I got it my then boyfriend, now husband took it for a ride without my permission and crashed into a wall head on:mad3: . He was fine but my bike was not:laugh: . It was going to take $2,500 to fix so we kept putting it off for other things. This past weekend my husband decided to surprise me and take it to the shop. It will be ready next week, but now I'm having second thoughts about riding because I have gone up to 270lbs and my riding gear doesn't fit. It's not just that I have to buy a new jacket it's that I don't want to look like a circus attraction! :blushing:I can just picture me on my bike and people looking at me all weird, trying to figure out why there is only a tire sticking out of my fat @$$!! :crying: I mean I really, really, really want to ride and I don't think I can wait until I lose weight after the Lap-band surgery. Any suggestions?

:drool::lol:

Hey if you want to ride, then ride. Tha't what is so great about motorcycling....the freedom to do what you love. Also when you are tempted to cheat go for a ride. The air will clear your head and get you focused on something else.

Heck if you feel uncomfortable on the rocket, trade it in for a cruiser and you will fit right in. My husband has a Harley and I have a Burgman scooter. It's all good!

Wow, thats an old post. Hope you started riding and are still going. My husband bought a Spyder while I was 250 lbs. I was uncomfortabe, felt like a freak on it but enjoyed riding so much I just went for it. Now am 163 and still love it. Who cares what people think. Do what u enjoy. (My husband is happy for me but said he misses being able to lean back into me) We could fit another person between us now.

That made me smile! Thank you!

My husband and I don't ride comfortably together on his Street Glide. I love riding my own but miss riding with him. Very much looking forward to doing that again!

I love riding my vintage 1977 Yamaha XS750 triple! Restored and runs like a banshee...She'll be even quicker the more weight I lose. I don't think I'll ever let anything get in the way of my riding. It is my escape, my freedom, my addiction.

I rode my own at 240 and I ride my own at 148. If anyone had negative thoughts about me riding at any weight they had the wisdom and courtesy to keep those thoughts to themselves. I have a 1997 Virago 1100. It's a great bike but it needs one more upper gear to keep it smooth on those long Texas interstates.

My weight had picked up and I had pretty much quit riding. But I'm back baby! And my gear fits again:)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
