Stoma swelling

Recommended Posts

Hi. last Monday, 4/6 I had another .3 cc's put in, bringing me up to almost 6 cc's in my band (I've been banded for about a year).

Well, a few days later (Wednesday) after I couldn't even swallow any Water, I realized it was too tight and irritated, and got .2 cc's removed, which helped for the rest of that day.

Now, every morning I wake up to my stoma being so swelled that even Water has a hard time passing through. I find that the irritation goes away by the afternoon, and I'm able to drink Protein drinks or mushy stuff, but then the process repeats itself and the next morning it's back to being irritated again. I've been taking a pepcid in the morning and at night per my PA's direction, but it doesn't seem to help.

Has anyone had that problem? My doctor unfortunately is about 1 1/2 hours away, so it's not like I can just "pop" into his office, either. Thank you!

I'm a little too tight right now but I've had the challenge of morning tightness from the biginning. I understand that women have it much more often than men. I can eat at night only. Protein Drinks and Soups are the stuff of most days. Now, being very tight, I can not eat much at all and I'm torn....I'm losing weight very quickly, but I ache and throw up too easily. I'm back at the surgeon for a check in a couple of weeks, so I'll ask. It's a thin line between sweet spot and too tight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
