BearSpiritGuide 0 Posted April 11, 2009 Hello everyone... This is my first night home since I had the lap band surgery. The surgery went fine - no complications, but my blood sugars spiked high and I had a lot of swelling so they kept me in the hospital for two nights. I am the first patient to not go home on the day of surgery from my Dr.s office and he has been doing this for years. I did this surgery for my family: 17 yo daughter starting college in Aug.; 15 1/2 yo daughter starting to learn how to drive; 11 yo son - I missed his birthday for the surgery; 4 yo son who is very concerned about the owies on daddy's tummy; a 4 yo daughter who is still in China waiting for my wife and I to come adopt her this summer; and - of course - my sturdy rock, my best friend, the woman of my dreams, my wife. This whole process is more about getting rid of the diabetes than it is about the weight, but fortunately both will be addressed. I am looking forward to the new me. -BSG Day one weight: 320 Day 3 weight:
Mona40 0 Posted April 11, 2009 Congratulation on your surgery and hope you continue to feel better. I had my surgery on April 6 before surgery my blood sugar was 114 after surgery my blood sugar was 228 so the doctor order me a insulin to lower my blood sugar down. I had to stay in recover for several hours but I was release from the hospital that night.
Copjock 0 Posted April 12, 2009 I wish you both the best of luck! As for me, I'm just getting started in the process. I have my very first consult on Thursday and came across this site and looks to be very informative. I have extensive family history of diabetes and after watching my family members become pharmaceutically dependent, I know that is the road I'd rather avoid. Hopefully this will aid in rectifying that. Best wishes to you!!!
Butterfly64 0 Posted April 13, 2009 I am scheduled for surgery in 2 days (April 14, 2009) and I am glad I read your post. I too have issues with my blood sugar levels, the doctors consider me pre-diabetic. While on the pre-op diet using Optifast liquid shakes I have lost 20lbs. and my sugar levels are significantly lower. I am hoping this surgery will correct my weight for life as well as my blood sugar level. Thanks 4 sharing.
