EastsideAnthony 0 Posted April 11, 2009 Hello all: I'm glad that I found this site tonight. My wife and I are trying to plan out my lapband surgery for this year. So far, we have attended a seminar. I was told that my insurance (BCBS Federal) would not require a 6-month nutrition program. We could get started right away with the physical and psych check. However, after reading the posts about the pre-op liquid diet, I'm going to have to prepare myself mentally for this. Look forward to learning more here, Anthony
Burgygirl 1 Posted April 11, 2009 Hi, I am also from Dallas and have BCBS Federal. They don't have a 6 month waiting period and don't require a psych eval. That being said, depending on what doctor you pick, they may require it. Sometimes I get to thinking it is a good idea since the changes are mental as well as physical (at least for me). What doctor are you going to? I used UT southwestern and have been really happy with them. Good Luck in your journey.
EastsideAnthony 0 Posted April 11, 2009 Hi Burgygirl, I think I'm going with Lap Band Dallas out of Presbyterian Hospital. I haven't looked at others, but I'm open to suggestions. These doctors have a pre-op diet for 2 weeks with some solids included for 2 meals a day, and the rest consisting of Myocel. Reading some of the stories of patients starving their livers with liquid diets is horrifying and somewhat amusing when they crack, but I (and the people around me) probably won't be laughing when I experience the same thing. Burgygirl 1 Posted April 13, 2009 Sounds like the program at Presby is very similar. Pre-op (2 weeks before) I did protien shakes for 2 meals and 1 high protien, low fat "sensible" meal. Wasn't too bad and gets your body in the mindset of weight loss. Good Luck to you and your wife. I tried getting the hubby to do this with me but he is very skittish about anything surgical. To me it's no big deal.
