erinshel 0 Posted April 10, 2009 OMG I could kill for something soft and mushy right now. Thankfully I didnt have to do the 2 week pre-op liquid diet only 36 hours prior to surgery, but I am about over all of these shakes and such. I dont know how Im going to last another 2 weeks like this. Its only been 2 days since my surgery but Im hungry all the time and the taste of the liquids and sweetness of the Jello and pudding are starting to get to me already..... Any advice?? RestlessMonkey 7 Posted April 10, 2009 Hang in there. Like you, I was NOT one of the lucky ones who "wasnt hungry" the first few weeks. I woke up in recovery ready for a steak and a baked potato! (I did NOT get it! LOL) It is VERY important now that you follow your doc's instructions so that you heal and your band heals properly in place. (digestion causes the stomach to move and can either mess you up now or set you up for slips/erosions etc later on) It will pass! You can do it! If you are really about to kill someone by Monday (or whenever your surgeon is open) call and ask if you can advance. We're all different and what's right for someone who may post here isn't necessarily right for you. (for example my doc didn't allow us Protein shakes during week one but your doc may approve them! Or you may be able to eat sugar free Jello etc) So hang in there, check with your doc, you aren't alone and it will be worth it!
erinshel 0 Posted April 10, 2009 I know I cant eat anything and this is useless ranting but it is very hard (you all know this already!!!) thank you for your words of support. I broke down and am eating some Tomato Soup. I am already allowed to eat the Protein shakes, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, different types of broth and crystal light.... it just seems like no matter how much I eat though Im not getting full. part of it is my stomach and brain are not working together. just below my breastbone i can feel where it seems tight so I assume Im getting "full". However, my lower portion of my stomach is still growling full force and burning because my brain is saying Im hungry. I think I will call my surgeon on Monday and see about advancing to mushies earlier than 2 weeks from now. I dont know that my family can live with me that long on only a liquid diet!!! :tt2: :tt2:
lapbandtalker 0 Posted April 10, 2009 Good news, you should not be dieting....but healing. My doc allowed milkshakes, puddings....anything that is liquid or plasma like.
erinshel 0 Posted April 10, 2009 im not trying to "diet" but the surgeon's office did tell us to keep sugar minimal and to watch our carb count. I havent gotten anywhere near the amount of Protein Im supposed to have each day--I was at about 65 grams yesterady and I think Ive hit 60 so far today but I'll probably eat something else tonight before bed. I just hate feeling my stomach growl and gurgle like this. My poor family feels so bad eating in front of me but its not their fault. Thanks for your response though. RestlessMonkey 7 Posted April 10, 2009 Each surgeon is different. Mine had a strict "clear liquid only" during week one...which meant Water and broth, essentially. Week 2 we could have full liquids (that's where the Tomato Soup came in; before that it was a no no) and then we advanced to mushies (but they had to go through a straw!) and so on. Like I said..I feel your pain, but just hang in there and do what YOUR doc approves. IE Lapbandtalker got to have milkshakes but they were NOT approved by my doc, especially for the 1st week or two. (and not because of calories, but because of digesting milk)
kathyv 0 Posted April 11, 2009 Certainly check with your Dr. My doc's instructions were to be on full liquids the 1st two weeks but when I went back for my one week check up and told him I was tired of what I was eating already, he approved me to have cottage cheese, applesauce and anything with the applesauce consistency. You might get a nice surprise if you ask!
bsivley 0 Posted April 12, 2009 I am 3 days PO and actually feel good. Today is much better than yesterday as far as being hungry. I will be on Clear Liquids for two weeks. This means no protien shakes or anythink like that. I get jealous when I read on here that some people are allowed mushy foods and protien shakes after 3-4 days. I am just going to do what my doctor said and suck it up until he tells me to move forward.
