ACNE ??? A post-op side effect???

Recommended Posts

Hello ...

Is anyone else fighting acne since they've been banded??

I've noticed flakey scaley skin - I accept that, since I'm not as hydrated as I once was. But Acne?? I've never had an acne issue. Ever! Not during school, and not during my cycle. But since surgery, i have whiteheads and blemishes on my cheeks - up and down the sides of my nose, running from my nostrils to my eyes ( i mean, where eye bags would be, and the blemishes hurt! ) - on my forhead, right between my eyebrows, and on my chin just under my lower lip.

Wouldn't you think that since I've given up most friend foods, greasy foods, simple sugars, and i'm sweating more from exercise, that this shouldnt be happening? HELP!!!! :tt2:

I'm open to any options and suggestions.

Thanks :tt2:

Hair loss is a sign of not getting enough Protein. Try as hard as you can to get 80 grams of protein a day. My hair started falling out, but when I upped my protein for a few weeks, it stopped. AND my weight loss became more steady. :tt2:

Don't know what to tell ya about the acne. I've always had it. I do notice, the more Water I drink, the less breakouts I have.

Hugs,

I would definitely suggest upping the Water intake and maybe choosing some anti-acne cleansing products.

Also, some of us are more prone to acne when we have fluctuations in hormones such as during puberty, pregnancy, time of the month, etc. When you are losing weight rapidly, it is releasing the hormones that are stored in your fat cells. It could just be that an excess of hormones might be having a big impact on you as far as acne is concerned.

What HeatherO said! I vote hormones, mostly.

And you may just lose hair regardless. I got plenty Protein and still lost some. My doc says it's really common, and whether you supplement or not it happens, and it stops within about 6 months. So panic or not :tt2:

but it will probably fall out for a bit and the quit. He said best medical guess at this time links it to the trauma of surgery. ? I just know mine fell out starting at 3 months and quit at about 6. My long term beautician never could tell even though I thought I would end up looking like I had the mange!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
