Tomorrow-- Now I'm nervous

Recommended Posts

OK, tomorrow is my "band" day,, now I am getting nervous..

Not about getting the band, but I really freak out with the IV- getting it put in..

Any time I have needed one they can never get it on the first try and they usually have to have an actual IV nurse do it.. And many times my veins have so called Collapsed and they had to do another one or didnt realize that it had done it and I get a big egg of Water and bruising....

Once I check in to the Hospital I wont get to have my Fiance with me until just before I go back for surgery, and they want you there several hours before.. They say that him back there violates the Privacy laws.. I say BS,,,lol since all of us having surgery are in the same area, then we would be violating each ones privacy...

So any way its not the surgery its the IV and the anesthesia that scare me,,,,

I always wake up very combative and Throwing up bile etc...Each time I have told the anesthesiologist this they say that it is usually kids that wake up violent and that I have probably outgrown it,,, NOT,,,, and also the stuff they give so you dont get sick,,,, doesnt work.... I dont wanna be sick... :>(

OK, there, I whined,, now I feel better,,, OK, not really,,,,

Just want-need your encouragement please......

Listen you need to make sure you are more calm when you go in. Think positive thoughts! I mean it -really positive thoughts. Also they have improved the meds you get to help with sickness w/IVs. I told them I get sea sick if i am in a bath tub & my anesticia(spelling )guy gave me GREAT sea sickness meds & when I woke I felt FANTASTIC!! I would do it all over again. Yes I was thirsty & yes my throat was sore- but they fed me ice chips & I ate a whole lot of them;0)

You will be GREAT! Really & so darn happy that you were brave and went through with it. Once that IV is in it will all be over in mins. So stay strong-think positive thoughts & go for it!

See you on the bandside of the world soon:0) Congrats!

Just like you told me - "You'll be fine." You'll do great. So what if you get combative - they'll just strap you down.... JUST KIDDING - gosh don't take everything so seriously. La La land was great for me - best sleep I've gotten in a LONG time with NO interruptions (kids). You've had to kick me in the butt through this whole journey. Now it's my turn.

Just let them Know once you get into preop the troubles that you have. As soon as they could get the IV coming my way they had the meds to calm me down. And again right before they took me into the surgery room when talking to the anesthisia doc I let him know my concerns so they would be prepared..

Good Luck and think Postive and please take someone so they can keep you distracted..

They can probably give you a mild pill form sedative, I take 1/2 of a valium before I go for my fill, due to my needle anxiety. Call your dr today and ask him to call in a script for it and take it in the am before you get to the hospital. Just be sure to let the anesth doctor know.

The IV won't be as bad as you think. The staff that does them are pro's, they are used to using that size needle. When I was in for my appendix (looooong story), I always asked for the House Doctor and it wasn't bad at all.

You'll be home before you know it. Hugs and Kisses and good luck.

I'm so glad it went well. I wish I had seen this earlier. I would have said, and this may be of help to others in the future, that they can give you an injection into the vein to freeze it, and then give you the IV. They did that for me when I had my Gallbladder operation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
