Surgery on the 14th and getting scared

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My surgery is rapidly approaching and I have second thought jitters. I also have a cold which started yesterday and I am both afraid of surgery and afraid of not having it if my cold doesn't go away in time.

I am trying to decide what I want to eat that I may not be able to eat for a long time and my mind is blank.....isn't that strange? I would of thought I would be thinking of all kinds of sweets, chocolate and bread.

My doctor told me I do not have to do a pre-op diet. That seems contrary to what everyone else here seems to have been doing.

Website help needed?

How do you guys get the bunny bandster and the weight tracker on here? I have to figure out how to put my information on the side too.

thanks for the help and encouragement!

vicky

Hi All,

Pre-op jitters are perfectly normal....we all had them! Try Zicam ASAP for your cold...it really does help minimize symptoms if you catch them early.

I am trying to decide what I want to eat that I may not be able to eat for a long time and my mind is blank.....isn't that strange? I would of thought I would be thinking of all kinds of sweets, chocolate and bread.

My suggestion is to have a nice steak! High protein!

My doctor told me I do not have to do a pre-op diet. That seems contrary to what everyone else here seems to have been doing.

I didn't have one either -- it's not all that unusual. Some insurance plans require those hoops, too.

Try the FAQ section of the forum...all those answers are there.

Nerves are normal, but I found them to be completely unnecessary! The operation and recovery were a breeze, and afterwards you really aren't hungry. Although, today I have had 1 cup orange juice and 1/2 cup of vege Soup and it is now 6.30pm I am feeling hunger pains in my stomach for a bit of food - probably cannot ask for everything!! :)

The pre-op diet, its the doc's choice and designed to shrink the liver to reduce operation risk - sometimes if it is longer than 2 weeks it is an insurance requirement to "prove" that you want it badly enough.

food - you will be able to eat again! Don't stress too much! Personally, if I could pick my perfect last meal it would be sweet and sour pork chinese!!! YUM!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
