My 1st fill experience

Recommended Posts

Today i had my first fill, this is my experience & what i was told/adviced & reflects on no one else but me....

Firstly i had to go see the dietition & get weighed & she was shocked with the amount of weight i have lost in a short time & told me i am doing everything by the book & obviously the band is working brilliant for me

she has also ordered me to have bloods taken today, lots of bloods to make sure im getting enough Vitamins etc etc

Then straight on with my next app today with the biatric nurse to get my fill..

weighed again & she said straight away how well i have done with the weightloss & she didnt want me to have a fill as her thoughts i didnt need one ,

but i said to her me & hubby have drove 2 hours & ive been so excited of the curiosity of my first fill,

So in the end she agreed to a 0.5 fill & said i dont need it but totally understand how excited i have been wanting one,

Aparantly i had/have 4.2 mils in my port from my surgery to which i didnt know, i always thought i was empty, But could always feel a restriction when i ate, so now i have 4.7 mils in my 14cc band

I told her it takes me a good 15/20 mins to eat my foods, she told me i need to extend it to 25/30 mins & reduce my foods a little more,

yes even though im having a good weight loss she said my foods need reducing a little bit more

I am at the gym 4-5 times a week incl swims in that & she told me not to exercise more than that, they are not looking to turn me into an athelete

She also asked me if there was any food i couldnt tolerate, i said no i can eat all foods, good she said because if there was foods i cOuldnt eat she said then the band isnt working properly, a good band means you can eat all foods without throwing up, being stuck or acid reflux

She said i have to go back every 4-6 weeks for a fill IF i need one but will be like 0.5 mils at a time, they like to do small fills so there's NO complications

& i do not have to eat musies/liquids after fills, i have to eat normal solid foods, she said there is no complications eating normal foods as its small fills

tonight i felt the restriction more, it took me 25 minutes to eat a smaller meal & it feels good

The fill procedure did not hurt one bit, she numbed my tummy/port area the needle wasnt long as i had imagined, infact she made me laugh & i couldnt stop because it was a weird sensation feeling when she was drawing the saline out, like a rumbling/bubbling feeling in the tube & before i knew it she was done, as quick as that

They praised me alot for what they said, working hard with my tool, me doing all the hard work & how i have not relied on the band to do it all for me

Now i know as my weight comes of more there are going to be times its going to get hard, im not in denial, im just on cloud 9 at the moment & basking in all the glory i so rightly deserve

Ty so much for listening & again this reflects on my own situation/experience no one elses

I have not been filled and I kinda eat whatever just less of it and try to get in all my Protein. I hope I am not messing up. My fill appt is June 1st. HELP ME PLEASE!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
