Have any of you suffered from bad Constipation? I've talked to my dr about it and he suggested I take Mineral Oil and eat alot of Jello. I'm going on 5 days now and nothing yet. It's stuck and it don't want to come out. Saturday will be 4 weeks post op. HELP!

The other response mentioned an enema- the proper name is Fleet Enema, which is good for a quick fix, but Constipation will keep happening because of all the Protein. I tried Psyllium Husk powder mixed with Water 2 times a day and let me tell you how relieved I am-literally. You use it everyday and at first your gassy until your body gets used to it. It doesnt give you diarrhea, it just make you go regular and it helps with weight loss. I bought mine at Vitamin shoppe.com or you can get a flavored one called Colon cleanse and you can buy that at naturesexpress.biz

Good luck!

Sorry for the typo:bored:. Depends on what's causing the Constipation. You don't say how far out past surgery you are. Anesthesia can caust constipation. I had that problem and my doctor recommended the Fleet Enema. Never had another problem! I bought the CVS Drugs store brand and I think a 2-pack was all of less than $2. Cheap fast cure for an annoying problem.

I have taken a "dose" of Benefiber every morning since surgery. It didn't prevent the Constipation resulting from the anesthesia. But I think it's a good thing to add to your daily routine because since you aren't eating as many fruits and vegetables, it can't hurt to get some Fiber in from somewhere else!

I'm tellling you- get psyllium husk powder- you wont believe it. The Constipation is caused by all the Protein we are eating. Get the pysllium husk, no more problems!

Thank you. I will try the psyllium husk powder. Hopefully this will loosen the stool that is stuck (sorry, I know that's gross for me to include). I really do believe it's the Protein we are taking in. Dr already has me eating cottage cheese, tuna, Beans, chicken and other stuff.

I've tried Benefiber, but after drinking it, I feel like I can't breath.

Parrothead Cathy - I'm 4 weeks post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
