Am I overfilled?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on February 12, and am down about 22 pounds so far. Still not exercising yet, but that's another thread. . . .

I had my second fill last week. Including the 4 ccs my doc put in at surgery, I've had a total of 2.25 more added (I have a standard AP band). Almost every time I start eating now, the first few bites seem to get stuck in my esophagus. If I wait a few minutes, it might go down - or I might have to go throw up - but that's usually more mucus than solid food (sorry for the gross visual!). Once I get over the hump, I can usually get the rest of my meal down. The problem seems to be less at night.

Does this happen to anyone else? I really don't want to have to go in for an un-fill and risk losing all restriction, because I'm not likely to succeed on sheer willpower alone. I wonder if I'm just not taking small enough bites or if I'm eating those first few bites too quickly.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey Franny, congrats on your weight loss to date. It sounds like you have the same problem as me and I gurantee you're probably eating too fast. This is such a hard habit to break (easier said than done, I know!) One thing that has kinda helped me is to cut a small bite and when I put the food in my mouth I put my fork/spoon down! I kinda hinders the urge from wanting to put more food in my mouth while trying to get the existing down. Also make sure your bites are small! My doctor said that size should be about the size of your thumbnail and naturally chew, chew, chew. If you have tried all of that and are still having problems getting food down, then I would call your doctor. Good luck to you and keep in touch!

Is it all foods or just certain foods? I usually find when that happens to me, it's my body's way of telling me that I can't eat that certain food.< /p>

It's tricky. Sometimes food that goes down fine one day, won't go down the next day. The saliva you are throwing up is called "sliming". Ewwwwwwww!!

If you actually throw up, it's called a PB: Productive burb!! Good luck!

Hi - I had my surgery on 02/06 and just had my 2nd fill on Tuesday, I have a total of 6cc's in me now and I went to lunch with my girlfriends today and just could not get it down, I ended up running to the bathroom like 3 times and it was just like all of you said, it was slimey & gross :-( Today was the first time I did that and am scared I am going to have my band slip or break it, please tell me I just ate too fast and it will get better and I didn't "break" the band.....I am down around 30 something and so excited this is working. The sliming is normal if food gets stuck right? I promise I will take smaller bites and chew better, I think I was just so hungry, I took a bigger bite, will know better for next time!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
