Do you need to lose those pounds you've gained?

Recommended Posts

I am right there with you guys!! I was banded in October 2008 at a starting weight of 237. The lowest I hit was 206. Well I've gained about 4lbs. back, haven't lost any weight in months and I am so fustrated. I know the process was going to be slow but this is discouraging.:) I will not lie, I have falled off the wagon a few times but not enough to not lose and gain some of it back. I know I need another fill but I'm afraid to go to the doctor as I don't want to get "the lecture" about what I should be doing. I'm trying to get back on track and eat lots of low fat Soups, sugarfree Jello, and pretty much a mix of all the stuff I was eating on the post-op diet. Oh yeah, and lots of Water & crystal light. I was a diet coke addict (1 case of soda every other day) and after the surgery I have cut all that out completely as it makes me sick. I try to excercise as much as possiable but I have two girls (11yrs & 5yrs old) that require so much time. Between the both of them, I'm in a Twilight/HighSchoolMusical double hell of my own - HA!HA! Any suggestions on time management and/or juggling so many things at once???:P

Hi vam! Welcome!

From what it sounds like, yes you do need a fill and maybe as quickly as possible. Do not worry about what the doctor tells you, and I doubt he/she would be overly negative. That is what they are there for - when you need a fill. In the big picture gaining four pounds isn't really all that bad. I'm sure your doctor will note that and say, "Thank goodness you came in for your fill!".

In my opinion you aren't really doing all that bad. Some just don't lose as fast as others. That doesn't make you a bad person, just an individual.

HTH!

ugh. i have been home w/ a sick kid most of the week and just have not found the time to get on here and post. i am tired and not feeling the greatest. up all night with the little one makes it impossible for me to get up when the alarm goes off for the workout. a few days i was literally just getting to sleep. so i turned it off and slept. she seems to be getting better this afternoon though. i hope we are on the upward curve now. poor little thing! makes my heart ache when i cant make her feel better.

that said, i blew it with the damn oreos. why did i even buy them? that was just stupid. but i havent given in to the candy, no reese's or snickers so i am proud of that. and i am back on the no oreo bandwagon as of tonight. i know i can do this.

i find myself struggling with eating slider foods right now. i think i could use a slight unfill. but for now i cant. cant take the additional time off work after missing 3 days this week with the sick little one. and cant really afford it now either. i know what healthy things i can eat, and just have to make better choices. i can eat canned chicken breast, but not "regular" chicken breast. i can eat hard boiled eggs ok if i go really slow. i bought extra cans of chicken so i can make chicken salad for the week to take to work with me. and i boiled some eggs to have them to snack on over the weekend.

tomorrow is the ms walk. my mom has ms and i am the team captian of the team we have that walks for her. i have arranged for her sisters and brother to be here as well as her mom and dad and some old friends of hers. this is the third year we have joined all together and walked and raised money for research and help for those living/surviving with ms. last year our team was 2nd place for the town we live in. the year before we were 3rd. i was really hoping to get 1st place this year, but donations were so hard to come by! last year we placed 6th for the state we live in. i am really bummed because i dont think we did as well. i know every penny we raised will help, i just wish it could have been more. and not that i want the other teams to do poorly, but i hope they had as hard a time as i did finding funds. lol, you know what i mean, right? i really want as much money as possible so that a cure can be found and my mom can be pain and symptom free. its so hard to watch her struggle on her bad days. but i hope the walk is great. i know she is looking forward to seeing everyone. its like a mini family reunion. i just wish it were for a different cause.

hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi everyone! Man, I wish I had seen this thread a few months ago, lol.

A little background on myself...I had my surgery in Sept 2007 and on my Bandiversary I had lost a total of 100 lbs...went from 330 to 230. That's the first goal I had set for myself and I was STOKED that I was able to accomplish it! At my lowest I was 221 lbs. Well, I've been too scared to weight, so I don't know exactly how much I have gained, but I'm guessing somewhere between 10-15 pounds.

For the past few days I have done really well. I've been eating better and I started running again. I feel soooo much better.

My lapband doctor has been monitoring my Fluid because I keep losing some. IF I have a leak, it's a pretty slow one. But none the less, I am still able to eat a lot of food. I've never gotten to my sweet spot. My fills usually last a week or two, then it's back to eating like a pig. Low carb usually works best for me, but it is soooo hard to stick to. I have PCOS, so insulin resistance plays a factor in all this too.

I know what part of my problem is. I have a perfectionist gene, lol. I do so well for a while, then I eat one little thing wrong and in my mind, I have failed. So I say, "why bother with the rest of the day since I've already screwed it up". It's a never ending battle. If I get sick or something gets in the way of exercising it totally throws me off. It's like, if I don't do everything to a "T", I'm a failure.

Sorry for rambling on so long. I hope I can keep up what I have been doing and not fall of the wagon again. I'm glad I have somewhere to come and vent without getting blasted and told to "just do it". Thanks for listening!

Congratulations on every one's progress! It's really inspiring!

Georgiagirl!! Hey there!

Well, I had strep this last week. Man, was I SICK! You'd think being that sick I would have lost a few pounds, but it looks like I'm up a couple. (I am going to wait until Monday morning for my official weigh in) Wow, this has become such a struggle! I am not sure where to find that will power I had the first 6 months I had my band. I never cheated one time for 6 months! If I could only do half that good I would probably at least be losing slowly.

Like georgia, low carb works really well for me. I am just really bad at it! I would rather take a beating then not ever be able to have a slice of pizza! (Boy is my fat Renee side rearing it's ugly head!)

I'm feeling like such an incredible failure right now! GRRRRR!!!! I am going to set a couple of goals for this week and force myself to stick with them and then each week add a couple more. It's kinda like doing it all and being a good little bandster is just too much! Soooo... how about I I say that I am only going to have my 3 small meals a day and NO Snacks and I am going to start over on week 1 of Couch to 5K (again!) which means I will exercise 3 times this week. I CAN DO THIS!

Hey mamato! Being sick is part of what has gotten me off track the last few months. It's hard to start up again after that. Good for you! Setting goals is an awesome way to keep motivation.

I started running again too. I'm not following the c25k program, just doing my own thing. I've started incorporating sprints into my runs and it's really fun! I also joined up on another Nike+ challenge, so my competitive nature has already kicked in!

My new goal is getting to ONEDERLAND. I'm going to keep the exercise going strong and work really hard on eating better. I did pass up brownies yesterday and I was proud of myself for that!

I am also greatful for this thread. I was banded on May 16, 2008 and am feeling the frustration of coming up to my anniversary and not meeting my goal. In the first 4 months after getting my band I got down to 237 from 276 and was excited. Then from September to now I have slowly gained back 20 pounds. But i have been reading various posts and have been re-inspired by my band.

Random question: Do any of you get a cramp in your left arm when you don't eat hardly anything during the day, or when you have eaten junk all day. Just curious.

Abby

abbykins- thats so weird that you mentions that arm thing. the last couple days i have had this weird twingie pain thing in my left arm, like the bicep area and shoulder. i cant figure out why its hurting. but i have been eating crap those days? i dont know if they have anything to do with each other. weird!

Yeah, really weird. Mine is more of a hunger cramp or an over-full without protien cramp.

want-so-bad, have you been working out too much?

abbykins- yeah-no! i wish that were the problem. my workouts lately have been more focused on my legs. i get in these weird almost like obsessed bouts of focusing on one or the other. right now its my legs. its hard to describe the way it feels.

even weirder is that for the last 2 days now i have had a major backslide and have been pigging out on junk food. well, candy. and have lost a pound and half. wth is up w/ that? i dont know, but i know i am stopping today before the scale jumps the wrong direction 5 pounds! i wonder if it has to do w/ my new medication? i started taking topimax for Migraines? hmm, i dont know.

oh no, well at least you are putting an end to the junk food. I get a sweet tooth a lot, too. but then again I've always had sugar cravings

Hi y'all, I am going to jump on in here. I was banded on 5-14-08 and did GREAT at first. Then I let the fact that life came crashing down around me get in the way and BAM! I gained back 25 of the 45lbs I had lost. UGH. I had completely forgotten about this site, but probably would not have posted anyway since I was so ashamed. I watched my mom have gastric bypass twice, and she is gaining weight AGAIN after the second one. I DO NOT want to be like that!!!

Does anyone ever talk to a counselor? Truth be told, I am a Biggest Loser addict now and I see them also talking to the contestants about their mental blocks to being fit and healthy. I SOOOO need that. Especially now that I am back on track and finally got a fill in my band again. (I had 4cc's in a 10cc band before hand.) I started exercising again and in the last week and a half have gone down 13lbs. WOOT! (I ALMOST feel like I just had the surgery again, without all the pain though.) My body is adjusting to not getting 10lbs of food in one sitting again.

Hello? Anyone there?

Well, I'm checking in to say today is day 30 and no chips. Yay me!

want, thank you so much for checking in with me. I'm still doing okay as far as the chips, but I havent had any time to do any exercising so my weight has not moved at all, Unfortunately.

I'll get with it again next week after we are all moved into our new home and all is well again.

Hey y'all check in! I want to know how you're doing! :frown:

LilMissDiva, that is awesome to go 30 days with no chips. That is a huge accomplishment! I have finally lost a couple of pounds. I had a fill last Monday & so far so good. I'm one who tends to get tighter as time goes on but if it can stay where it is now I think I'll finally start making some progress after months of a standstill.

Good job!!!!:frown:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
