Seeing a surgeon next week

Recommended Posts

I've thought more and more on this, and think I will do it. Like I wanted to, I have lost some weight, a couple of kilograms over the last few weeks. This research process has taught me a few valuable lessons. But looking at how far I have to go, I know I cant do it alone. I know statistics are WAY against me losing 30kg and keeping it off.

So I'm seeing somebody next week, and I'm going to an information session Wednesday night.

I think I really needed a bit of extra time to get my head around just what this will mean long term, but I'm a bit more comfortable with that now. Boy you just dont realise how many emotions and psychoses are tied up with your weight until you really analyse it do you?

Jachut~ Good luck in your continued research! Get all the info you can and take your time in making your final decision on getting banded! it is definatly a life changing decision but one that you will feel good about making... but only when you know you are ready will it come to you that this is the right desicion... not one to hurry into! You will still feel worried but you will know it is right for you. It is only natural to feel anxious we have all been where you are right now and understand what your feeling. Follow your heart!!! Wishing you lots of success and happiness no matter what you decide!!

Good luck in whatever decision you end up making, Jachut. And know that we're all here, anytime you need support or to vent or whatever.

Which surgeon are you seeing?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
