Approved and scared

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone-

I am new on here and today I was just approved by my insurance company. I started this journey in mid February and was approved a week after submitting my papers to the insurance company. When I got the phone call I was so excited but then my nerves began to set in. I have never been a doctor person. This whole thing has forced me to get a million physicals. I am almost 27 years old and 320 pounds. My fiance recently left me and have the support of my family. I am supposed to get a date for May tomorrow.

Can anyone help to ease my nerves? How has your experience been with the lap band surgery? How was the pain of the surgery? Recovery?

Thanks,

Julie

Take a deep breath and breath slow. It will be alright. It's normal to feel exactly what your feeling. But for the most part it's easy. My hubby and myself have had the surgery within the last 2 months.

Now I'm not going to lie to you and say that there isn't going to be pain, there is. But it's not anything that the pain meds that they give you can't handle. And you will be surprised how quickly the day will come (a week or a little over) that you won't even need any real strong pain meds.

I'm sorry about your fiance leaving. I know that had to hurt, but think of it this way. WHEN you get down to where you're one super HOTTIE and he sees you........ just smile and keep on walking AWAY! Let him eat his heart out for what he walked away from. I'm glad that you do have your family for support.

The only problem I'm having is right now I'm just a few days shy of my first adjustment/fill. I'm frustrated that I'm not loosing more/any than what I am, but from what I'm reading this is normal. I'll loose this blubber. Just on the bands time frame, not mine.

When I first got approval I was exciting that I told everyone that I was having the lapband surgery. Two days before the surgery I thought I was going to lose my mine because I was scared. Just pray and ask god to relieve the fear from you that's what I did. I had surgery on Monday, April 6 and I'm fine. I was in pain but it's wasn't that bad.

You will be all right go for it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
