Should you have a Tummy Tuck before you have kids?

Recommended Posts

I'm 22 and having the surgery soon.....I am probably going to get a Tummy Tuck but don't plan to have kids for about 5 years.....should I wait till after I have kids? If I get a tummy tuck before will I just completely ruin it when I have kids?

Have you already had your lap band surgery? If not, it may take you at least two years to reach your goal weight. I personally would not invest the money in a Tummy Tuck if I knew I was going to have kids. My TT is costing me $10,500 and it is not something I want to pay for ever again. My abdominal muscles were stretched so bad after my last pregnancy that I have a 4 inch gap in the center of my abdomen. You may not ruin your results with your pregnancies, but why risk it? Just my two cents.

If it were me, I would wait till after kids to have my TT. My 1st pregnancy I gained 75 lbs. and my 2nd pregnancy was with twins. Both did a number on my tummy and muscles.

I have already gone into a consult for a Tummy Tuck and breast aug because that was orginally what I was going for. I've had children and they destroyed my body. My surgeon said that he would do it if I was still planning on having more children but it was not something he reccomened. Most women that get pregnant after having a tummy tuck are in a great deal of discomfort because their abdominal wall doesn't have a lot of room to stretch when the uterus increases. Not to mention the risk of opening the scar in the incision sight.

I would say that it's not something you should do before having children. I have heard that most surgeons will not do it if you are actually planning on having more kids. Good luck!

Hon, you should wait. Pregnancy is HELL on most people's bods. Don't waste your one time shot. Plus this way you can totally enjoy being prego and er, fat  knowing a nip tuck is around the corner. Don't even get me started on the whole boob thing..'spose this is what we do for our 'lil angels :blushing:

(mine is 12 I had him when I was young, I am 35)

I'm in the same boat. Had the surgery 4 years ago, lost 110 lbs and look great, but I'm also 23 and the doc says a Tummy Tuck would be the best option. I didn't realize that your ab muscles get so separated when giving birth/pregnancy and that might null the tightened tummy I get from the surgery.

I hear a lot of genetics are at play too--some are more prone than others to have more stretched out skin and/or get the stretch marks badly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
