So, this is my first post ever and I will start off by saying Hi. I have been researching Lap band for awhile now. I was scheduled to meet with a surgeon today. Unfortunately, their office are complete morons and they scheduled me in the wrong office on the wrong day and now their next available appt is like four months away. I know that doesn't seem like a major set back in plans to most people, but for me it does. That is four more months on waiting to see if I even get approved or not. I have Tricare and I meet their guidelines. I have my psych eval next week. I've already had my PCP order all my bloodwork, they just wont submit for Lap band without the notes from the surgeon because they don't know much about it. I'm so freaking stressed. Just needed to vent...

Hey S's Mommie,

This is pure nonsense. They made the error and they are punishing you for it? I don't think so! In this ecomony there is a lot of competition out there and many great bariatric surgeons. I would suggest you find yourself another surgeon.

I researched as much as I could find in my area. The nearest surgeon from here after I dump this one is like an hour and a half away. Which isn't much, but when you consider having to take an entire day off of work to go see them puts my job at risk. I work in a doctors office and our hours are exactly those with all the surgeons. It's so frustrating that I've been crying all day. I just want to get the process started. I've done everything so far myself. Psych, blood, referral. EH! Any one from Southern Cali, Temecula San Diego area that know of any good surgeons?

Hey sorry to hear that you have to wait 4 months. If I were you I would call the surgeons office almost everyday to see if any appoinments open up. People cancel appointments all the time. I have Tricare also and was really suprised to have my approval so quick. I just hope this is not going to discourage you from having the surgery. My mom is having GB and has been waiting over a year. She is still gung hoe about it. Just remember everything happens for a reason. Good luck on your journey. Jennifer

Hey, I agree with Talk! The doctor's office screwed up, not you. They need to get you in on the first cancellation or work you in! Call them back and be polite but demand that you get in sooner than 4 months away. That is nothing short of ridiculous! GOOD LUCK

I feel sorry for you. I know how disappointing this is. I was all set to go and then after I had all my appointments and submitted paperwork DH's employer had a clause that it did not cover weight loss surgery. I cried for a whole day, missed a day of work and thought this is BS and I am going to fight this, I did and two weeks later they called me and told me they had reconsidered and I could have the surgery done. I am scheduled for tomorrow, the 9th and cannot wait. Call the office and explain how discouraged you are and that it was not your fault that the screwup happened and ask to be put in or at least on a cancellation list. You may have to be flexible in your schedule incase they call and you may have to leave work. All good things are worth fighting for. Make yourself a pain in the butt and they will be tired to keep hearing from you. Good luck.

you should call every single day....people have to cancel or reschedule appts all the time...you can probably get one if you call everyday

Ok, so I've spent all day on the phone with my PCP, WLS, and Tricare and I am getting everything moving on my own. I have my psych scheduled, lab work ordered, and consult scheduled. My referral has been submitted and I'm awaiting approval. I work in a doctors office handling a lot of referrals and I know the process so I think that helped me quite a bit!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
