Getting My LapBand This Month...

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I just came from the Dr.'s office and I have my date. I'm getting my Lap Band on April 28.

I'm feeling just about every emotion, right now.

About me: I'm 47 and have been overweight all my life. Up until I was about age 40 I could keep up with my thinner friends. In the last few years it's gotten tougher and I knew it was time for action.

Like most of you, I've lost hundreds of pounds in my life...Only to gain it back, plus some. My PCP, who is also a lifelong friend, brought up WLS over 2 years ago. I wasn't ready then. But, I'm now on a handful of pills and I'm tired of feeling lousy!

So...I'm ready to start this new and exciting chapter in my life. I'll let you know how it goes.

Take care and good luck to you!

Jim

Jim, by the first week of May you will be feeling so much better. I, too, had lost more than 100 pounds more than once and always gained it back with a little extra for good measure. My PCP told me before surgery that starting with the day of surgery to not take any of my meds until he told me otherwise. I am not quite 2 months out and I've seen him twice (once I had a sinus infection) and he says I'm doing really well, come back in May and we'll see how it's going then. I feel better than I can remember. I'm down 43 pounds since I started the pre-op diet through today. This forum and others like it are a great source of information, ideas and suggestions. We'll look forward to hearing from you on your progress!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
