Hello to everyone and thanks in advance for your replies!!!

I am scheduled to be banded on 6/8/09. We have a beach camping trip scheduled for the week of 6/21. We will not be tent camping. We have a travel trailer. Will I be ready for this trip?

I had surgery on February 10 and went back to work on February 13. Felt fine, had no problems. A positive frame of mind can make a difference. Instead of worrying that you might not be ready, believe that you will be and, if you get tired just go take a nap! You'll be on vacation. What's a little nap now and then on vacation, LOL?

You'll feel totally fine, the only thing you'll need to do is prepare the kind of food you'll be allowed to eat. You'll prob be transitioning to mushies around then and will have to be creative about portable filling mushy foods. Have fun!

You will be fine. I am being banded by Dr Bauman on April 16th! I know based on the dates, that you will be on mushies during your camping trip. I'd bring some healthy Soups and fat free refried Beans. Be very careful of campfire temptations because your band is still forming to your new stomach. Any non-compliance could cause slippage or other problems.

Thank you so much for your tips. I am looking forward to being banded and also to my trip. I know that both will be a positive experience. I will plan ahead so that I will be able to follow the eating plan for 2 weeks after surgery. There are also many grocery stores and a Walmart within walking distance so I will always have access to healthy "mushies". I will also be taking my Magic Bullet with me on the trip.

Were you able to work full days? I am getting banded on Friday and will be going back to work on Monday. Everyone has been saying it will take a week, but I really don't have a week to be away from work. Thanks!

I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday, I was pretty sore sitting up, couldn't find a comfortable position in my chair, and I was really tired by the end of the day, but it is possible.

okay...time for me to ask a stupid question...what is the "bullet" I keep hearing about? Some type of blender?

I'm glad you asked this question because I've been thinking the same thing. I will have about 14 days from surgery to our camping trip. I know I will be in my transistion stage but I am somewhat concerned of hooking up the stabilizer bars on our travel trailer to the truck. Takes quite a bit of force to lock these in place. At home it won't be a problem because my son can do this. When we arrive at the campground I was afraid of the force when I disconnect. I've been wondering if I'll be able to do this or have to get help or cheat with a longer pipe. Just don't know what to expect.

Bullit is a blender you can get at target, Walmart etc. I have one and it works great. You can make shakes, etc in a cup that you can drink/eat out of. It costs about $40.

Hopefully this is what you've heard people talking about.

Thanks! Yep...sounds like something I will definately be needing! I even have a bigger disadvantage. I don't have my bottom chewing molars on the right side. I am concerned about being able to chew well enough.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
