good morning;

i was banded on oct 6th 2008 by Dr. Paya in west hills, ca...i started out my journey at 296 pounds....yesterday was my 6th month post-op anniversary...i am down to 181.4 pounds...i do have a lap band...i am NOT a bypass patient...i understand these results are not typical....i was told by my surgeon it would probably take me 16 months to lose 100 pounds...i do follow the program to a t....and exercise a lot!!!!!!!!!!!! i have spoke to a few people that are saying its not good to have lost this much weight so fast....my suregeon knows how much weight i've lost and doesnt see a problem with my #'s...i was wondering if there is anyone else thats banded and has lost as much weight in a short amount of time...and what your surgeon has told you....i feel fine...i have plenty of energy...my only complaint is the amount of hair i'm losing...i would really love to hear that its okay to lose this much....this fast....

The Hair loss is totally normal, especially given that you have lost so much so quickly. It will come back. I lost about half my hair in the first six months, and its slowly coming back. Everyone is different, and loses at a different pace. I would just listen to your doctor and what he/she says. S/He is the professional.

Wow that's awesome!! That's a 4.7 lb loss a week. You go girl. I've been told that it's okay to lose this much as long as your supervised. As you mentioned your doctor is following you on this loss. Any before and after pics.

Your the poster child for the Lap-Band. Following the rules and working out..... This is what the band is for the weight loss. It's no different than how the By-pass will have you losing, yet the band is less risky.

CONGRATS..... We want pictures......

yeah i know 4 other people who have lost 100# in 6-7 months i also know one who has lost 105 in 5 months and all of them are lapband patients. dont worry about what people say as long as you and your surgeon know what you had is all that matters. congrats.

When you had some cake did it get stuck? did you have any problems getting it down? cause that is on my problem foods list...and I love cake..i think everything in moderation is okay! but i was just wondering! ( I just had my band put in yesterday) :thumbdown:

I hit the gym 6 times a week for about 90 to 120 minutes. I do an hour in the elleptical, 20 minutes on the bike and 30 minute circuit training 3 times a week. During my pregnancy I didnt hit the gym as much and after the miscarriage I also stooped for a few weeks. Now I am back and at full force! I also walk walk everywhere and eat a healthy meal 6 times a day. Hope that helps :thumbdown:

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
