weight loss & plateaus

Recommended Posts

I have been having this issue to its hard to gage what you are doing wrong im walking a mile a day doing yard work house work and when i eat the portions are right and i usually throw up half of that if im not careful I have lost 77 pds and lately its like pulling teeth you can sure tell im not in my 20's anymore if I did everythingj im doing now back then I wouldj lose 5 pds a week frustrating I know I dont need a fill im tight enough. they wont give me one right now either

I'm not in my 20's anymore either - and I'm glad! I'm in much better shape than I ever was in my 20's! In fact, I'm currently in the best shape of my entire adult life - and it's only getting better.

Don't judge your progress on walking a certain distance - or on how little you eat. Both of those things can be detrimental to weight loss - even though we've always been taught they're ideal to weight loss.

#1) Walking the same route (exertion level) over and over again is pointless. Your body quickly adjusts and it no longer provides the desired effect. You have to constantly offer new challenges (higher exertion level) to further your progress. Most people will find that, long term, walking as a sole form of exercise will be insufficient.

#2) If you want to keep your metabolism cranking and fat burning, you have to eat! Digesting food burns calories. And digesting whole unprocessed foods will burn more calories than slider foods.

Whenever you question your progress, it's essential to journal your food and exercise with a program such as Fitday (or similar - there are several good ones). Then you have real numbers to work with (not guestimates) and you can make meaningful adjustments.

Good luck and work hard!

Brad

Oh I hear ya...been on a plateau for 3 months, same 3 pounds up and down a bit. Now back on track, my 5th fill seemed to kick in last week. I wend from 164 to 160 this week and am happy. I am making sure I eat my 3 small meals. And I do mean small and 2 Snacks so I have something every 4-5 hours. The steady small meal thing seems to work well with me. I do have a 6th fill in May and will go through with it..I need all the restriction I can get.

I still hope to be near my goal weight by August 7th. 30 lbs. to go.

It's a daily battle and sometimes you get really discouraged with the plateau. But eventually it gives. I find sometimes I eat more for a week...the go back to diet and the plateau goes away, you "fool" your metabolism and the hibernating thing goes away.

Good luck all

Pati

You definitely have to eat to lose! I've been going up and down the same few pounds for about a month. I decided to start tracking my food on The Daily Plate on 4/20. According to my height, weight and goal of losing 2 pounds a week, my daily calorie goal is 1625. And that's before the credit I get for my workout each day. During that first week of tracking my calories stayed below 1200 and come Friday I had not lost anything - my weight stayed the same as the past Friday. This past week, however, I've been getting between 1350 and 1450 each day, and today I posted a 1.7 pound loss. PLUS it's that time of the month. Needless to say, I'm happy. I'm going to stick to the same plan for next week and see how the loss goes, and depending on the results, I may add another 100-200 calories a day the following week to reach the calorie goal set by TDP.

I'm hoping by getting more calories I will break through this plateau and once more be on the losing track!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
