Adelaide Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Thanks for that Jess. Sorry, not trying to be dumb (I emigrated from the UK about 3 years ago) and haven't had too much experience with the Medicare system. Do you mean your private insurance paid for it?

Sorry, not trying to be frustrating! Just clueless really.:)

Yeah my Private Health Insurance covered it all which was good.

i think Tarob is having it done in Sept/Oct via public health system, so he may be a good person to ask.

As Leah said, Dr Bessell's clinic is great, i only switched due to costs and that meant i could have it done sooner!

Im not too sure what other post op fees i will have but ill let you know when they come about.

Thanks for the reply Leah,

I actually have had private health insurance for just over 12 months now with AHM. However, we only have their inpatient plan (Family Hospital I think it's called) and I was just assuming that it wouldn't be covered.

I'll give them a call to ask, I was thinking about maybe asking them for some help with payment anyway, given it would probably prevent a lot of health problems later that they'd have to pay for.....but I thought that was a long shot!!:)

It's a really interesting topic though. Thanks for the replies guys, I wish you all continued success!

I went through Dr Anderson at Ashford he charges only $2600 as a facitlity fee, no other charges for appointments etc

I paid $50 excess on my medical insurance for the hospital stay....

I would recomment Dr Anderson and all his assistant surgeons, I thin they are wonderful and always willing to answer any questions you may have

Spaniel, hospital cover is pretty much all you need really.

Dr Bessell charges a surgery fee of $3500, of which I paid $1900, private health paid $1092 and Medicare paid the remainder. But you can always use another surgeon that doesn't charge a surgery fee.

The hospital stay is what is expensive - my private health paid out $9.5k for my hospital stay!

Definitely give your fund a call and find out. Hope it is covered for you!

Hi Trish. Sounds like you might have a 12ml band? I hope that your new fill does make a difference for you.

I am at a point where I reckon I definitely need more fill, but the problem is getting it. I can't get to Adelaide for a while now, so I might just have to ride it out. I'm not starving or eating heaps or anything, but I'm not really losing either despite monumental amounts of exercise! I'm hoping its hormonal lol

I almost got stuck yesterday for the first time in a while - while eating an orange! fruit is one of the hardest things to eat, I think. I can handle bread and steak, but cos fruit is so fibrous I can feel and sometimes even hear it go through the hand haha. I've had pineapple stuck before which wasn't fun.

But the good news is that I ordered a dress online for Roxby Races on August 1. I got an 18, and was expecting to need to work my butt off to fit into it by race day but it fits perfectly and I reckon if I lose my 5kg goal for this month, it'll be too big! Such a dilemma!

Hi I was banded in late 2005 by Dr Bessell and team, does anyone have any other suggestions for Dr to follow up on this treatment, didn't really gel with this team and have not seen anyone for 2 years, would like to get back on the horse so to speak, is there any Dr's doing this north of the city?

Hi Choney. I am with Dr Bessell and team, so can't really offer any recommendations for others though Jess is with Dr Lillian Kow and she swears by her.

I have finally reached 25kgs lost! Though I suspect tomorrow I won't be... I think its the result of severe dehydration from a night out lol Though I did walk 5kms most nights last week as well as 2 PT sessions!!

Hi, I was banded on 15/05/09 by Dr D'Onofrio. I had my first fill of 3.6ml on 11/06/09 and am due for another fill tomorrow. I have some restriction since my first fill but for some reason it seems to have settled down and my loss has stalled. I'm still in the process of giving up my love affair with food so this is probably adding to the stall as well, lol. Trying to be paitent!!!

Hi can you tell me where this Dr practices from? I am on a new search for an Adelaide Dr seperate from Dr Bessel's surgery, thanks.

Hi Choney

I went through the Adelaide Bariatric Clinic and there are two surgeons there.

Dr Lilian Kow (lovely, amazing lady) and

Prof James Touli

They practice at either Flinders Private at Bedford Park or at Calvary Private in North Adelaide.

Both really well respected surgeons could not be more happy with how i have been treated pre and post surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
