Adelaide Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

September will be here before you know it!

I remember when i had to wait a whole year, April 2008 to April 2009 for my private health insurance to lapse the 12 months, and then my surgery was scheduled for end of May 2009 so really 13 months!

The time did so fast which was great. I remembers counting months, and then in the New Year days!

Im sure it will all go as planned!

Hi all,

New to the forum - good to see some Adelaide people on here, I was beginning to think everyone was American :(.

My info... Banded in October 2008 by Dr Bessell and have lost 20kgs so far; which from what I gather for a guy isn't that great but at least I'm on my way. I have been away overseas for a couple of months and so left my band as it was (a bit loose) after two fills. Now I'm back it's time to get serious and get filled again - since I have been a bad little boy

So anyway - hi :w00t:

That's great that you have a date now Tarob. Like Jess said, the time will fly. I had my initial appointment in September and had to wait till February for the banding (because of work restraints) but the time flew and I was banded before I knew it!

I don't think I would have survived 4 weeks of liquids... I still can't stomach even the thought of Soup, I was so over it by the end! Especially cos I was getting really hungry after about 1.5 weeks.

Anyways, welcome to all the newbies!

I am going to get my 3rd fill on Friday. Dr Bessell is doing it himself because of the difficulty they have with my port. It got twisted sometime between my first and second fills. Don't know what I did! Hoping to get another 0.4ml at most. I have 5.8mls in now and am almost at my sweet spot, but still getting hungry about 2 hours after eating and can still eat a fair bit. Weight loss has been steady but that is more because I work my ass off in the gym than from food restriction.

The book I was given by my DR says 2 weeks liquid 2 weeks mush then solid....... I am sure however your doctor does it differently for a reason  I am actually getting worried about it now! Not bad stuff just more anxious, I wanna know my results etc. and I am wondering/ hoping I go really well. I am going to really start changing my eating etc on monday so then I dont find it so hard closer to my banding date.

2 month 10 days to go to I get to be in the game with a chance!

I read this little thing today and i never saw things this way before.......

The picture was a larger woman walking the caption said

"Strap 40kg of potato to your body then go for a walk, That's what it is like for me"

I wish more people understood this!

Anyway It late so I am rambling so I wanna Vent about a girl at work.

This girl has lost 40kg I will give her that but she spends hours every day in the gym and she can with her lifestyle! Great for her..... However, I have spoken to her a few times about the different things i have tried just at it was something we have in common etc and i had not told anyone at work about this op. When the date was booked in I was a bit bad but hey it is going to be the last time forever! I wasnt eating the best food for lunch. She yelled over to me so everyone could hear which would be close to 30 or so, whilst i was eating.. "so hows the weight loss going??" She didnt even want an answer and just looked away! I wanted to walk over to her and slap her in the face:cursing::biggrin::cursing::thumbup::cursing::tt1::cursing::eek::cursing::):cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:

She knows what it is like! its great she found what works for her but how dare she embarriss me like that! :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:

Ok I am all vented now!

I just cant wait till I get my results! Hey I am fat but I can loose it, she is alway going to be socially retarded!

Hey Everyone

Hope everyone is doing well

MsJess, I got banded on May 14th by Dr Anderson @ Ashford Hospital, I started my pre op early, but my 20kg Ive ost since the end of March so I guess just over 2 months. Just before the op I was at 13kg but 2 weeks after the op I hit 20kg ( ahahah a gold bangle in store for me from my hubby now ) I was on liquads for 2 weeks after the surgery then mushies, was supposed to be finishing the mushies at the end of next week, but the doctor told me on Thursday that I should start my solids on Monday

The liquad stage wasnt too bad though it was only 2 weeks and for about half of that I was swollen so I could eat (well drink) much anyway so that helped. Im so excited to start eating properly on Monday. I have been craving a cheese sandwich and roast for months now.

I did my first body jam class on wed night hahahaha it was funny but a great workout, Have gone back to the gym 4 times a week now.....I love it, have turned into a bit of a gym junkie :tt1::biggrin:

Hey Tarob, I was petrified before my surgery, so scared that I started writing out letters to my loved ones in case I died, and notes for my husband eg, what our son has in his lunch box everyday I know its easy for people to tell you theres nothing to worry about, but you have to feel that for yourself. This website helped me through so much, just reading through peoples stories etc. Yeh everyone is different but you dont see many bad stories on here Ive noticed its great......Also being that your going through the same doctor as I did, his assistant surgeon Dr Sabine is just gorgeous he made me feel comfortable on my last appointment before surgery that most of my worries and aniexty went away  You'll be in great hands, its gonna come around so quickly :) And as for that cow at your work, bloody hell she must be related to my cow of a mother in law, go on give her a big bitch slap :cursing: heheheh Im evil :cursing: She of all people should know what it feels like........Just know that you are a better person than she is :cursing:

Trish:thumbup::biggrin:

Glad you finally got some fill, Trish. 5ml is a lot first off, but if you had none then a good amount. I had 1.4ml in at surgery.

I got another fill tonight. Dr Bessell did it himself and got the needle in no worries. He did itunder fluroscope but said he didn't think it was necessary, so don't know why Dr Patroney had such difficulty on more than one occassion!

I now have 6.3ml. Though hoping my band hasn't leaked cos Dr Bessell was only able to pull out 4ml. I doubt it though cos restriction hasn't dropped that much. I just had some room service spaghetti bolognese and it went down fine. Will see tomorrow if I have any extra restriction!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
