HELP with Insurance wording 5 years...

Recommended Posts

I recently went to True Results and was told that my insurance would cover me 90% if my BMI was 40+. But, my insurance had the following conditions. A weight history for 5 years. Do they mean a BMI of 40+ for 5 years? The person from True Results told me that it had to be 40+ for 5 years. or 35-39 with two co morbid conditions for the past 5 years. Does this sound right? I have a BMI of 40 but only for the last 2 years and I was in the 35-39 range for the last 5 but I have no co morbid conditions. :(

Hey Pephlin,

Sounds to me like you have the same insurance that I have. I had the same requirements needed for approval for 100% coverage, for the LapBand. It took me 7 months, and a lot of determination and foot work to get it all done but it is so worth it. I was required to show that I had a BMI of 40 or more for the past 5 years, that I was on a physician monitored diet within the past 24 months and that I was capable of losing at least 10% of my body weight. I also have co-morbidities of hypertension and arthritis. :beer_yum: I needed a formal letter of Medical necessity from a doctor other than a Bariatric doctor, complete cardiac and pulmonary work-up, complete psych evaluation, Ct scan of the abdomen, bloodwork and then you sit and wait until the insurance decides if they will approve you on the info presented. Its tough, but worth it. I was denied twice even after presenting all the required paperwork, for silly things like a physician did not sign his progress note with his full name but used his first initial and last name.:( It was very frustrating process but being who I am, I would have taken it to my Senator before I would have given up and let the insurance company win, and I think they knew that. Good Luck with your journey, hang tough and don't give up- I wish you the best- Lighterload

I aslo had to show five years of data and I can forward you a letter that my wife and I used to get approved. Also you can get it from all your doctors and put it into one letter to the lapband doctor. It took me about 6 months to get it all togehter because I had records all over the place and not in one place. Also I had some medical records from work that I also used and was approved in no time. If you have any more questions just ask.

Chris

Keep in mind that there are many things that can be co -issues that we might not think of such as back, shoulder problems, Walking problems, hypertsion, and a hole host of other things. Just need to sit down and make a list of issues/problems you are having and go and talk with your doctor about these and have him write a letter. Every insurance company is differant in how they look at things. I would just make a list and have the doctor send them in and see what they have to say, Also keep inmind you can use all your doctors that you go to for tracking weight by the year. It does not have to be just one. Good luck and if you have any questions just ask.

Chris

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
