Can you feel your port?

Recommended Posts

I am not able to feel my port. I was told by the nurse that my port is located under my long incision. However, I touched the area around it, actually I touched and felt my entire abdominal area, but could not locate the port. Does this pose a potential problem for filling? My first filling is scheduled on next Thursday. I am very concerned with where my port it. I hope this does not mean I would have to do a band reposition. I mean, I ony had the surgery about 1 month ago.

I too can feel my port, though sometimes it feels like it moves about & dont feel it all the time, try laying on your back & give it a prod about, though im sure its nothing to worry about, i dont think everyone can feel there's ?

give your doc a call just to put your mind at rest

Thanks fo the response. I have tired feeling it sitting down or standing up and both failed to feel it. When I get home tonight, I will try laying down and feel it. I am concerned because a lot of band reposition post said that they couldn't feel the port.

My port isnt under the incision as most would think. Mine is to my right of it and down about 2 inches. I wasn't able to feel it before but since about 75lbs lost I can feel it if I push on it.

Brandy, even though you couldn't feel it before the 75lbs lost, your doctor had no problem finding it when he did your fill, didn't he/she? That is such a comfort to hear. I was afraid my doctor wouldn't be able to find it since I could not feel it at all even after I tried feeling it while standing, sitting down or laying on the bed.

My doctor had a drawing or picture of the body and during surgery he marked on the drawing the place where he put the port including the part I said to the right and down 2 inches.

He has me lay on my back on the table and has be lift both of my legs slightly off the table as if I am doing an exercise. This causes the abs to work and push the port closer to the surface and makes it easier for him to find. He has never missed my port when doing fills.

my surgeon does a similar thing as well. My port is also located about 2 inches down from my largest incision. I can definitely feel it when I lay down, doesnt really bother me.

Oh yeah! I can definitely feel my port. But mine is located about 1/2inch above the left end of my large incision. the other night DH and I were laying down talking and he was rubbing my tummy and found my port and was like...eeewwwww..then he couldn't quit messing with it LOL!!

I couldn't feel mine at first either, but like others said, the doctor (actually it was a PA) found it easily on the first try. Now I can feel it, about on inch below and dead center of my big scar.

Hi Everybody,

I'd like to report that I just got my first fill this morning. After I went into the doctor's office, I told the nurse that how much I have been eating at every meal. She laughed and said "yes, you do need a fill". The PA asked me to lie on my back on the table, bump up my tummy then lift up my head. It was like doing an exercise. She then rubbed my tummy and found the port. My port is actually located right above the big incision (only 0.25 inch from the incision, very close) She pushed the needle in (it hurt a bit, felt like a sting) and moved up and down for a minute trying to locate the port access point. It hurt a little when she was moving the needle up and down, but it was bearable. Finally she found it. She gave me 4.4 cc to a 9cm realize band. She said that my port just sucked all the saline in. I was told that my band could hold maximum 11 cc of saline. The entire procedure took about 10-15 minutes. So it was not as scary as I thought before.

My stomach felt a little different than before after drinking one cup of Water. It felt a little like after the surgery. But I wasn’t burping or feeling nausea. So she released me.

She also told me to stay on liquid for two days then soft food for another two days. Then I could go back to regular food. I know that 4.4 cc is pretty aggressive comparing to most of the first fills that I read in this forum. Hopefully it would work out fine. I bought 2 cases of EAS brand Protein Shake (coffee with caramel flavor). It tastes much better than what I had before. I drank half carton down, I was not hungry anymore.

I could actually see my tubing poping out from under the skin and had to poke it back in! (it turned out the port had flipped) and I have had it redone 4 weeks ago! Now I can feel a large lump where the large incision is and can very much feel the port (anyone who touches it can)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
