lap band fill question

Recommended Posts

I had a fill one week ago today. I have lost 115 pounds since my lab band placement, March 28th, 2007. I have been at a stand still with only 1 pound lost in the past 3 months, so I contacted my doctor and he scheduled me fo a fill. This is the 4th fill, my last on Dec 31, 2007. I'm beginning to think my band may be too tight now. I have no problem geting liquids and soft food down but it is more difficult. I have not experienced this before. Has anyone experienced their band being too tight, how did you feel? What advise can you give?

Wow! Congratulations on the weight loss!!!!! At my last fill 2 months ago, I thought my band might of been too tight. I was just like you - able to get liquids and soft food down but pb'ing and getting sick on the solids. I took a couple of days and stayed on liquids/soft food so the swelling could go down and then slowly started with the solids again. I figured out that I've never had that much restriction before and wasn't taking small enough bites/chewing well enough. For me, old habits are hard to break, LOL! I've not gotten an unfill but feel the band is right about where it should be as long as I slow down and remember to watch my bite size and chew thoroughly. I'm interested to see what others thoughts/ideas are. Keep up the good work!!!!!

One more thing I forgot to add. I've always been a real guzzler when it came to liquids. You know, always in a hurry, and yet wanting to make sure I got enough liquids in. After my last fill, I noticed I can no longer guzzle. I have no problems with taking (what are probably normal) sips, but it's very painful to guzzle. I'm still learning, LOL!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
