Who does 1/4 cup of food work for?

Recommended Posts

I cant imagine how tight you'd have to be to be full on 1/4 a cup - I really dont think the band was designed to work that way. 1/2 a cup is more the normal amount you hear bandied about but its fine to eat more if you're losing.

I'm more a 3/4 cup type of guy, but I have been pretty conservative on my fills.

For Breakfast, I eat either 2 moderately soft scrambled eggs, or 1 scrambled egg mixed in with 1 pack (1/2 cup) instant grits, or 2 packs (1 cup) of grits...depends on what's left in the pantry. I prefer the eggs, for the Protein punch, but if we're out or getting low, I'll supplement with grits. Even 2 packs of grits is under 200 cals and is very filling

For the other small meals throughout the day, I will have a baked filet (tilapia or chicken breast) with 3/4 cup of vegatables.

I don't measure, I eat until I am satisfied and I would estimate that amount to be 3/4 to 1 cup per meal. I eat three meals per day and strive for no in-between meal snacking. After five fills and being at my sweet spot for a few months, I can say that I was never satisfied on 1/4 cup nor would I ever want to be so restricted. At the volume I am eating now, I am still able to sit down and enjoy a sensible meal and have lost weight consistently. I measured out 1/4 cup once just to see...In my opinion that was little more than a sample, certainly not a meal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
