I have yet to find a "good" Protein Shake. I do like the special k Protein waters. They don't have a lot of protein, but they taste ok. The taste of the shakes is relative. Some people swear by Muscle Milk, but it tasted just as bad (to me)as the Body Fortress that I bought at Walmart. The key is to find something that can mask the taste like syrups made for coffee or extracts from the baking aisle. I hope that you are able to find something that you can tolerate. Good luck!

I LOVE Isopure perfect low carb Protein shakes. I but them at www.vitaminshoppe.com and get a freat price. Usually under $35.00 for the big container. I like the vanilla and the chocolate. Those are the only flavors I tried. They ship out to you ASAP and you get it in about three days.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good Protein shake mix for the "liquids only days" after surgery? :smile2:

For the convenience of being able to buy them almost anywhere, Slimfast Low Carb is great. I love the chocolate, it has 20 grams of Protein and only 2 grams of carbs. No mixing necessary. I still drink them for Breakfast a lot of days because of the convenience. I buy them just about anywhere that sells Slimfast (but not Target, for whatever reason).

My doc and nutritionist told me not to drink Slim Fast. I forgot why not.

I have been drinking the Slimfast Low Carb. Like Parrothead said, they have 20g of Protein and are very comparable to other protein mixes. They aren't packed full of sugar like the regular Slimfast shakes, but they taste the same. I think they are 4 for $6 at Walmart. They come in chocolate or vanilla, and I enjoy both equally.

I think Slim Fast can be hard on the gall bladder, even the low-carb. I use whey Protein from GNC. I have unflavored and I mix it with juice or skim milk (plus a bit of Nesquick *L*) but mostly juice.

I heard Unjury was a good protien shake unjury.com. It was a little too expensive for me. so I have been taking the Wheybolic as well at the GNC store in my area. But I get the chocolate. I am 3 month post -op and still drink it, only in the morning.

The only shakes I like are Matrix. I like the chocolate and the Cookies and cream. You can get them at fitnessone.com or bariatriceating.com or vitaminshoppe.com. I love the chocolate, it really doesnt taste bad. I still use them every am for extra Protein. Good luck.

My fav's so far are: Ensure- Pralines and cream- (frozen about 10 min before is like slush)

Adkins- Caramel Cappuchino- Tastes like real coffee

and vanilla Walmart Brand of Slim Fast.

I have also tried Boost (very vitamine-ey), Ensure chocolate (ok) and Adkins chocolate (too sweet).

I love Nectar's chocolate truffel blended with half a bananna. it is delicious, tastes just like a milkshake to me. I tried 2 other nectar flavors tonight that you mix with water...YUCK. I am trying to find something I like mixed with Water for the first week after surgery. I guess I will try the chocolate one with water to see how it will be. I did buy 2 bullets and 3 Isopure drinks for immediately after surgery since I hear I probably wont want to eat much, but I have not idea how they taste yet. If amyone has any ideas for Protein mixed with water I would be glad to hear them.

Protein mixes that mix well with Water and don't taste like well you know. Only one that I have found that works the best is Isopure Alpine Punch. It mixes well with Water and tastes just like fruit punch.

Be wary of some of the others that are out there. Some might say pure Protein and have low carb/sugar content but have alot hidden sugars and will lead you to the question "WHY AM I NOT LOOSING WEIGHT, I WORK OUT AND CAN'T DROP A POUND." Also be wary as to limit yourself to about 35 to 40 grams of protein and allow time for your body to use it. If not you will have issues with gas (very stinky gas). Also is not good for your kidneys. Drink plenty of water and you'll be fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
