I'm a little over 3 weeks post op as I was banded on 3/12. I have followed my doctor's orders to the letter regarding my diet. I'm on the soft food diet as of now.

Prior to the surgery, I was on the pre op diet where I lost 11 lbs. in 2 weeks. I've lost a total of 18 lbs. now. Yes, that's a lot of weight, but I haven't lost anything since the first week post op. Since I started soft/mushy foods, I've not lost. In fact, I've gained. I don't get my first fill for another 3-5 weeks. Here's what my typical diet is:

Breakfast-Protein shake

1/2 Apple juice (TMI-To help with constipation)

Lunch-3 oz. Turkey lunch meat

1 oz. of cheese

3 crackers

Snack- Low fat String cheese

Dinner-3 oz. baked fish

2 TB-Green Beans

2 TB-Mashed Potatoes

My Water intake is not as good as it could be, but I do get in around 48 oz. a day. In addition, I'm walking 30 minutes a night on my treadmill 3-4 times a week. What gives? Why is that scale not budging?

The post op diet is for healing, not losing. If you have doubts, call your surgeon or nutritionist.

And make sure you get the Water they've recommended; right now it's very important.

Hi! Don't worry, Restless Monkey is right. You are healing right now and your body is adjusting. Sounds like you are eating good and exercising, but your body has been through a huge change...give it time. Having said that, I am 6 weeks out from surgery (getting my first fill today) and have not lost any weight in 4 weeks. I have managed to lose and gain the same 1 lb every week! But still, I am not upset because I know this is somewhat normal. After the fill, I can expect more restriction and slowly to get to where I want to be. Sometimes we have to remember that this is a slow road to success...so be patient and give yourself big hugs for accomplishments already!!

teresa-

I am in the same position as you. My surgery date to be re-banded was 3/17 so I am about 3 weeks out also. I lost the first week and a half and for the last week and a half I have just been trying not to gain and trying to make sure to get enough Protein and Water in my diet. I have been through this before so I know that this is normal but it is still frustrating. I know that once I get my first fill I will be on my way to loosing again. Just hang in there and be patient, you will be on your way too soon:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
