I slept on my side the second night..I can't sleep on back and I did fine. I usually just prop a pillow behind me and voila, I am fine. Good luck!!

Tish - I think it depends on what works for you. I got my band on 3/31 and have had trouble sleeping since day one. A banded friend of mine said to try the right side with the port up and a pillow under the tummy to support it. I pulled out my old pregnancy pillow. That helps, but I have to wiggle around a bit to get the right position. But I still get reflux, so today I bought a wedge pillow which just elevates my head and shoulders a bit to keep everything flowing down. At least now I have two options, because nothing seems to last me all night! Hope that helps!

See I think they should tell us to sleep normally from the first night (while we still have the good pain meds) so you don't get adhesions and so on! Since I DID sleep on my side night one (while I was still well drugged) and then on my stomach night 2, it never hurt me to stretch out.

Im four days post-op and still having a little trouble sleeping. I am scared to sleep on my stomach (which I normally do) b/c I dont want to put too much pressure on my incisions. Also when I'm on my side I feel a pain on the lower right portion of my stomach. It's an area below my port incision. I wonder if this is normal, I'll be asking the doc at my 1 week appt.

The bed also gently exerts pressure on your incisions. Didn't hurt mine at all and it won't hurt yours either. :smile2:

I think most of us are "afraid" it's going to hurt and so it does, but if you can get past that thinking, it is quite comfortable. At least it was for me.

I've slept on my side since the first night. I had no choice really, because I had to stay one night in the hosp and the bed wreaked havoc on my back. As soon as I was home I was sleeping on my side and stomach. My incisions never hurt and the pressure of sleeping on my stomach helped with the gas.

I was banded in Aug and have slept on my stomach since day 1--even on the hospital bed. If I am not on my stomach, I don't sleep. Have had no problems or pain. I did have what I called a twinge on the left side and the Dr. said that it was probably because the muscle was bruised when inserting the instruments. It did go away in about 2 weeks.

Hang in there, you'll find the perfect position for you.

I slept on my side. One side was always a little more comfortable than the other and I would hug a pillow and put one between my legs and one just under my stomach for support. I had pillows all over to make me more comfortable. I also put a hot water bottle leaning against my back and it helped with gas a lot. It took me about 2 weeks before I was completly comfortable on my stomach again. I think whatever feels comfortable is fine. If it hurts, don't do it yet. Best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
