I just got my band on Saturday, so I don't have to worry about a fill for 4 weeks. Right now what I'm wondering is how much will the doctor fill the band to start? Some people say the first fill is too tight or not tight enough. Is there a basic starting amount of Fluid? How many CCs would be normal? Or does it just depend on the person and the doctor?

I don't think there is any such thing as a "standard" fill. My doctor says that fills are more of an art than a science. There are so many variables. Your best plan is to go to your fill with as much information about your eating habits - how much you are eating, what you are eating, how long it takes you to eat, how long it takes before you are hungry, if you are refraining from drinking before, during and after your meals. WIth that kind of information, your doctor can make the best decision of fill amount for you. And even then, it is far from exact.

For the record, I have a 4 cc band. My doctor put in 0.6 ccs the first time. I didn't need or want another fill til 5 months later, when he put in 1.5 ccs.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
