Hey everyone. I'm having my surgery April 27th. I see a lot of people have to do their pre-op diets for 2 weeks but mine is only for 1 week. That means I have 2 more weeks of "pre" pre-op dieting to go. I haven't really made any changes yet but I do want to start pre-paring myself for some of the behavioral changes I'm going to have to make. For those of you who have been banded already, what did ou do prior to surgery to prepare yourself for the changes to come? What do you wish you'd better prepared yourself for? I know one major thing I'm going to have to work on in the next couple of weeks is weaning myself off diet soda. Any other advice?

Congrats to you! I am new here too-

For me- not having the ability to chew for pre=op was hard- I love Soup and yogurt and thank god I was able to have them.

I am not a big Water drinker but love tea- so switching to that was easy during the day- I could do without soda so that isnt a problem either- There are so many wonderful flavors of crystal light out there i just imagine it is kool aide- minus all the sugar and calories.....

The other big thing for me was not drinking while eating and actually not using a straw- I now take sanitzer with me when we go out (and did it pre op to prepar) to wipe down the cups unless I have my own. I just dont trust restaurant dishwashers....

Good luck- I have found such an overwhelming amount of support from here in such a short time-

lisa

Currently on my pre-diet... Giving up soda not going to be real hard... I gave up caffeine about a year ago so at least I didn't have to do that at the same time. Biggest thing for me is I miss the chew factor. I have been chewing alot of sugarless gum to cut the chewing craving. As far as preparing I was mentally prepared for the post diet but didn't know until 3 days prior to my first pre surgery diet day that it was going to occur... So It' been kinda BANG!!! treating it like I planned post surgery... Soon know surgery is early Wed morning..Welcome aboard...

I've been wondering about the pre-op preparations too. I have a really bad diet soda habit. Will the pre-op diet help prepare me for the post-op diet or will I just feel frustrated post-op?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
