Hello to All and a pain question, Marie

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I can tell by reading the messages you are a caring group. I was banded on March 26th and it has been no picnic so far. I have terrible pain in my port area, really burning hot when I move wrong. Seems to be anytime I use the muscle right there. Any thoughts on this? I am 57, a nurses aid, wife and grandmother. Love most of my life and thats why I wanted to do this and loose the tired half of myself. I hope to loose 130 lbs more, down 20 from when I started this whole thing. I had Dr. Ray Kruger from the Southcoast group in Wareham for a surgeon.

Marie-

I believe they actually stitch the port to your muscles to keep it in place. I had a lot of pain in my port area and it is just now, 3 weeks later, starting to get better. I was worried about infection and the doctor told me that I should watch for a fever and the area around the port incision to get red hot. It is almost completel healed right now but I still have pain on occasion. I am sure it will be a few weeks before all the insides will be healed.

If you really think the pain is unusually bad you should call your doctor. I am sure the doctor would rather you be extra cautious instead of letting something go and it turning into something much worse. I always say, trust your instincts:smile2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
